There's always stuff to learn here! My bench grinder tip is officially a load of old Bollox, and I never even got to suggest it! I do most of the little stuff like this on a bench grinder and finish on a pillar drill with wet and dry. If you slip a long bolt through it with a couple of nuts and washers you can get just the right tension so it slowly rotates as as it grinds.

I though Amazon's free postage was over £10? As long as your order contains a book, cd, or dvd the whole order is postage free irrespective of value. Ahhh.... Nice one, didn't know that.

Well that's pissed me off! After months of looking I hadn't found anything like it? I won't be able to beat that price either

Looks like a simple enough job but I don't have a tap small enough for that.
Maybe you will find half a dozen others who need them and then the shipping will be tollerable?

Well I've never tasted Covonia so it may just be that they are all aniseed based? liquorice I think most cough medicines are made with & menthol This actually started to bug me so I had to check it out. Covonia is Liquorice flavoured and Buttercup is Aniseed flavoured.

When it is an eGo! (Or Riva, etc). After seeing more and more confusion over the new P.O. regs relating to batteries I decided to shred the info available from the Post Office and write up what it really means to Vapers.(Please do not start any protracted legal battles based on my twisting of the P.O. regs . There is much rigid interpretation of the English language and an equal amount of flexibility where it benefits us. In the same fashion in which a mech mod is or is not an electronic cigarette (it's not electronic and it's not a cigarette) an eGo battery is or isn't a battery.)Post Office prohibited and restricted goods. Batteries - lithium ion/polymer batteries contained in/connected to an electronic device
Each package must contain no more than four cells or two batteries installed in equipment. The maximum net quantity of cells or batteries is 5kg per package. Watt-hour rating must not exceed 20Wh per cell or 100Wh per battery. Each cell and battery must be of a type proven to meet the requirements of each test in the UN Manual of Tests and Criteria, Part III, section 38.3. Batteries are subject to these tests irrespective of whether the cells of which they are composed have been so tested. What this means to us:An eGo battery isn't a battery, a battery is actually a combination of connected cells.A 20650/18650/14500/10440 etc is a cell NOT a battery! An eGo battery is actually a single cell contained within an electronic device. That means you can send up to four of them in a single package.Or four mods containing one 18650 each.Or two mods containing two 18350 each.Or a laptop with a mega long life battery pack installed which contains 24 18650! (If such a thing existed).Batteries - lithium ion/polymer batteries sent with, but not connected to, an electronic device. The maximum number of batteries allowed in each package is the number that may be connected to the equipment plus two spares. What this means to us:You can send a single carto/clearo with three ego 'batteries'. Or an eVic with three batteries. Or a Vamo with four 18350 batteries. Or a resistor, an LED and 5KG of any combination of cells you desire!
The equipment sent with or containing cells or batteries must be packed in strong rigid packaging and must be secured against movement within the outer packaging and packed to prevent accidental activation. I asked in the local P.O. and they said their cardboard postal boxes would be fine but couldn't advise on how to secure the contents against movement. The sender’s name and return address must be clearly visible on the outer packaging. These items must be presented at a Post Office® counter. Local P.O. said package should be open but when I mentioned it would be 'packed in strong rigid packaging and must be secured against movement within the outer packaging and packed to prevent accidental activation' she just shrugged and said ok.Cells and batteries must be packed in inner packagings that completely enclose the cell or battery. Cells and batteries must be protected against short circuit, including protection against contact with conductive materials within the same packaging that could lead to a short circuit. Zip closure poly bag.Lithium battery handling label to be applied. They have these at the P.O.
Lithium ion/polymer batteries sent in isolation are prohibited. You can't send batteries on their own, only with or in a device
To be honest if asked I tell them it's a metal and glass/plastic tube, no batteries because all this is too complicated!
FYI: Wh=mah*V/1000, a 950 eGo battery is about 3.5Wh.

Hi davycYes it's difficult to nail them down sometimes. Have not found any specific reference to internal protection on these cells so it's best to treat them as unprotected. The crimped top is a standard configuration and can sometimes lead to people thinking that an unprotected cell is actually protected when it isn't. Have you put them through a controlled charge cycle yet? As you are well aware the 3.8-4.2v part of the cycle is the most likely to show up any defects and should be monitored closely. You will often find all the cells in a failed battery pack can be in good shape, normally due to a charge circuit failure or neglect rather than a bad cell. I find a failed cell rate of about 3 or 4 in 20, if I break open a battery pack and don't find a bad cell I start over with testing as I don't trust the pesky little buggers. I have found some of the test criteria: 9.1 Overcharge Test Test method: To charge the standard charged cell with 12V and 2.2A at 25? for 2.5 hours. Criteria: No fire, and no explosion. 9.2 External Short-circuit Test Test method: To short-circuit the standard charged cell by connecting positive and negative terminal by less than 50m? wire for 3hours. Criteria: No fire, and no explosion. 9.3 Reverse Charge Test Test method: To charge the standard charged cell with charge current 2.2A By –12V for 2.5 hours. Criteria: No fire, and no explosion So aside from anything else these are a pretty rugged commercial battery. Bear in mind that those test criteria are for a new cell and yours may be many months or even years old.

Just a note for you rich64, a fully charged Lithium cell in good condition should still show 95% charge after 90 days. But if the 3.9 came up to 4.2 without getting hot then it should be good.

Interesting thread. I have often wondered how to go about recovering the batteries out of a laptop pack. I have two dead hp laptops here that did not have battery problems so would it be worth trying and how do you go about it ? How many do you usually get ? Cheers guys. Ok, first thing that springs to mind is don't do it. Buy quality batteries from a reputable source. It's better to be safe. Nobody should ever break open a battery pack to recover the cells, there is an elevated risk of fire or personal injury. If you aren't the type that would usually go taking things apart, tinkering and risk taking then maybe this isn't for you? The cells are usually sealed inside a plastic casing which has to be broken or cut open. Then the cells have to be mechanically separated, and the control circuit removed, this can be done with hand tools. You will need to clean up any sharp edges on the individual cell ends, inspect for damage and check voltages. It's best to write the initial voltage on each cell with a permanent marker before charging. Charge a pair to 50% of max, check temperature and voltage then let them stand while you charge the next pair to 50%. Once all at 50% you can charge the 1st pair to max, monitor the temp and voltage especially from 3.8v onwards. Any that start to get hot or drop volts should be immediately discarded in a safe manner (not into the household waste bin). Once all of your cells are charged and you have discarded any bad ones you can use them in your protected mods. Cells which are not designed to be replaced by lay persons are often constructed to different safety regs and should not be used in mech mods.
