Today in the blog we're celebrating Mary's Vaping Success Story: "January 4, 2015 was my last analog. My son said if I could quit in one day, so could he. We are both now analog free!!! I tootle puff because it works! I’ve helped a few other people stop smoking and switch to vaping, even though I always said I would never be one of “those” non-smokers. HA! Today in the blog we're celebrating Ricki's Vaping Success Story: "Last year, I went back to a small town that is lived in a few years ago. I stopped in to get gas from the literal only gas station in town, and the owner and I caught up for a bit. When I went to go check out, she grabbed down my former usual (camel wide menthols). I just smiled and said “I can’t believe you remember, but no thanks. I don’t smoke anymore.” After two decades of an awful habit, I can say that. Today's blog takes a look at Vaping and Mental Illness: Is There Hope? A mind-blowing percentage of mentally ill people smoke cigarettes. While 17.8% of the US population smokes, 41% of mentally ill people smoke. According to the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration, mentally ill people smoke one-third of all cigarettes. According to the National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI), these mental illnesses have the following rates for smoking cigarettes: Panic Disorder: 56% PTSD: 60% Depression: 60% Bipolar Disorder: 70% Schizophrenia: 90% You might do a double-take reading these statistics. Rates these high cannot be a coincidence. It begs the question: what makes the mentally ill so prone to cigarette addiction? |
