The two main types of Smoke detectors used are Optical & Ionisation 

Ionisation are not used as much now and are considerable less likely to be activated from vapour or steam from your bathroom

Optical Smoke detectors will be activated if you allow the vapour to enter the chamber, at a guess i would say if you were to keep 10 to 12 feet away from the detector with normal amount of vapour (not big clouds ) you should be quite safe as the vapour has time to dissipate before reaching the detector

The other form of smoke detection VESDA (Very Early Smoke Detection Apparatus)
This system will detect even a very small amount of vapour but don't worry to much as tends to be used in computer rooms or high value areas
