Got the tattoo route sorted now I think in my head.
Specification: Brand new, Unused, High quality Material: Plastic, metal High efficiency, high torque, low heat generating Control the speed of a DC motor with this controller With reverse polarity protection, high current protection Input: 10V-30V Output: Max 120W(When more than 24V) PWM range: 5%-95% Frequency: 500Hz Current: Max 4A (Recommend you to use in 3A) With potentiometer With reversible switch All tested before shipment
With this second unit. I'd need a transformer (simply like phone charger) that would output 10-30v to get full use of the unit above. I'd also need a motor that could use upto 30v, again to get full benefit. And the motor should be rated at no more than 3a. If I did use a 12v motor, a 12v transformer would be sufficient.

Just edited my last post mate. Hope I got my head around it some more. And the tattoo motor you say don't turn it up to full voltage unless I get a bigger than 12v motor. Say an 18 or 24v motor.

So if I do go the 12v motor route. A speed control unit will alter the speed of the motor downwards by reducing the voltage. The power supply unit must supply the same or more amps than the motor needs, or the motor will overheat and die. Have I got that bit right?
With the tattoo route I don't need a power supply it's combined, just plug into the mains and the motor into the unit. The PWM unit again is connected direct to mains 240v electric. That one only outputs 10a so make sure the motor requires less than 10a. Still right?
Wish I could find a motor I could mount with a plug on it already lol.

It's not a case of ambition overload. I'm a fully qualified plant fitter. I can rebuild practically anything, same as mechanics can rebuild cars but still need auto electricians to rebuild starter motors and alternators. Anyone can mount a motor if they know which one to use.
p.s. I'm also a teesiders but I have a daughter living in Aberdeen lol.

Never had a train set lol. Like the controller though. This is where I get lost again. If I plug a transformer into 240v mains, with 12v 3a output. Connect that to the controller, would that controller still be able to adjust voltage as it says, down to 6v I understand but up to 28v? and if I supply more than 3a, would that be dangerous? do I need a certain wattage? i do want it safe to touch, don't want to fry anything lol.
