I use the Griffin as well and if I'm out with it I just carry a 30ml bottle of juice with me. It's an absolute doddle to fill.

Ah right so cd's can be Flac or mp3 depending on size/compression etc got it, i'd never even heard of an sacd before either, and I guess most people still haven't. You can get a lot better than sacd these days, HD Tracks is a big site selling high res audio. These are the main digital formats ATM if you had a bit of graph paper for all the possible values in a second of music 16 bit 44 kHz (CD) 65,536 volume levels 44,100 samples per second = 29 trillion squares (not nearly enough IMO) 24 bit 44 kHz 16,777,216 volume levels 44,100 samples per second = 740 trillion squares 24 bit 96 kHz 16,777,216 volume levels 96,000 samples per second = 1,610 trillion squares 24 bit 192 kHz 16,777,216 volume levels 192,000 samples per second = 3,221 trillion squares 32 bit 384 kHz (max for my system) 4,294,967,269 volume levels 384,000 samples per second = 1,649,267 trillion squares I like the 24 bit 96 kHz & 24 bit 192 kHz, but nothing commercial available in 32 bit 384 kHz ATM. CD's are WAV format. When you "rip" them you choose the file format. MP3's are pretty crap and smaller than FLAC etc. so cheaper to store on a server (less space when you have millions) and download to a PC or whatever.
Some sites, such as Bandcamp, let you download in different formats - MP3, FLAC, ALAC......... some smaller record labels do the same.

Ok but where do you get Flacs from as opposed to mp3's not that i need any, if i'm gonna collect anything it'l be on Vinyl, got a whole 3 ft now lol I buy CD's and "rip" them to the computer as FLAC files. The computer converts them to WAV (Wave) files (these are what the CD has and are approximately 40% smaller - saves on space) as they are playing. |

11 years collecting flacs, no MP3s, last couple of years concentrating high res ones.  I've only even heard of flacs since i bought my stereo system just before christmas, still don;t know what they are? FLAC - Free Lossless Audio Codec NINJA'd!!!!!!!!!!! |

Just like sound of the suburbs popped into my head, and i searched for the link, i'm building up my music collection now still on a 3 month trial with spotify already cancelled, pretty good though, iTunes meme not as good still on trial, will be cancelled, and will stay using Amazon music as we have prime and so it's basically free and does what they do, so it's all good, back to the tunes. There is a downside doing a word search on > 45,000 tracks takes a minute or so. Pee'd all over mine, 26000+ |
