I've tried Sultan, Tobacco Nut, Old Captain, Perique Black, Cohibia, Londoner, Kenty as concentrates. All mixed at 12%
The last three are very similar, and overall I'm noticing a family undertone. But they do the job.
Couldn't get on with Perique, might have to give it another try...

I just checked again, and I was wrong. There is colour there. I was holding it up to the light, and it looks clear. But against a white background there's a very inviting brown colour...

Auld Kendell. I went to a specialist tobbaconist and had a chat, and came away with this.

Just some more thoughts:- @hondo @yinyang I know this is a 1st time experiment for you guys but believe Me:- it'll work! You'll prob. have to use up to 50% of the resultant NET concentrate in Your 1st mixes to get the same strength of flavour in comparison to comm. available concentrates. If You persevere with the diy NETs tho', You'll prob. find that You can cut back on the % of NET in Your juice....& stuff You mix with comm. concentrates will seem very strong. eg. My 1st mix (using Red Virg. wholeleaf, extracted in VG using the heat method as per the sticky here..) mixed at 30% (as per rec. above..) gave Me the 'Eureika' moment of seeing the potential.......but tasted too mild for Me. So.....2nd go, I mixed up a 24mg. 50/50 base, & macerated the 'baccy in that for a month, filtered & vaped it.....Wow!!! 3rd go; again 50/50 but based on the orig. VG steep mixed with a 2nd PG steep (ie. the juice was composed of Nic. base, VG NET & PG NET, no plain VG or PG..) this was good as well but frustration was creeping in 'cos I was still using cotton & so constant re-wicking was driving Me mental!! 4th go:- found a packet of Old Holborn 'dregs'....this was mixed up straight as a 30% flavouring & was My favourite! (Smoked it for 30 years & the flavour caught the smell of the 'baccy to a 'T'...) Now I was hooked!.....found the NET threads on ECF, where the concensus was that pipe 'baccy gave better results than wholeleaf......so, found an on-line tobacconist that sold 5g. samples of pipe 'baccy, giving Me the opportunity to try loadsa different ones without having to lay out lotsa ££. Around this time, I got into using mesh & dumped the cotton. Sadly, They've stopped doing these samples so I'll be going back to wholeleaf ('cept for their Latakia which I can't live without & will happily buy 25g. of per order!!) Now at the point where I'll vape Hangsen & BCL juices in My Taifun when out & about, but diy NETs the rest of the time......& the Hangsen/BCL stuff may not get replaced when it's used up now that I've got the Origen RDAs set up for squonking! Oh, a coupla more thoughts:- when You've finished soaking the 'baccy....don't just junk it:- steeping some of it in Vodka for a coupla weeks, filtering & adding to the juice at up to 5% gives some added flavour & TH. What I have n't tried yet, & theoretically, makes a lotta sense, is adding saline to the mix......... kreed wot % please?............ Useful post. When you talk about Old Holborn 'dregs' do you mean tobacco dregs, or dregs from a mix? Think we've got the same taste in atomisers. I got into mesh a while back. Got an Origenny and a Le Zephr that I use for baccy. My first rebuildable was a Taifun GS. Loved the vape but it was a pain to wick. Just recently got a GT2 - super smooth, dense vape. Better than all the Kayfuns. Have you tried mesh in the Taifun?

I've been following all these threads with interest. About to take the plunge myself. Do you think I can use the SS mesh grades I don't use for gennies to strain? I have #400 and #500 I brew beer, and the straining process reminds me of sparging the mash. Often you use hotter water in the sparge to reduce viscosity. I wondered if slight warming of the PG would do the same thing? If You're brewing, You won't have any probs. with steeping 'baccy:- it's more like letting a pot of tea stew...(albeit for 8 weeks!!!!) I tried mesh once but gave up on it as it was an intermediate stage 'twixt tea strainer & coffee filter...it's finer filtration than coffee filter paper that I should be doing! Use a coarse strainer as a 'rock catcher' to get the large bits of leaf out of the liquid & then refine the liquid. Maybe the technique to steal from brewing is Vorlauf(ing) The mash is a runny, sugary porridge. We manage to get clear wort by using the grain bed as a filter. The first few litres have particles in, until the grain bed settles. Those first few litres are poured back on top to go through the, now settled, grain bed. Could the macerated tobacco not act in the same way? I imagine it would be a slower process. But can be repeated until the desired clarity is achieved. With filtering, I've often found that time and gravity are the most effective...

I have two Origens and a Le Zephr, with mesh, dedicated to tobaccos. Cotton mutes the flavour slightly, and gunks up too quick. I found big (3.5mm +) wicks work best for me. #200 outer and #200sf inner - wicks up to 70/30 just fine, but I like a touch more throat hit so use 65/35, or 60/40

I'd buy Darkstar even if it was more expensive. As far as I am aware, they are still the only firm to supply US sourced Nic. And it tastes like it...
