Alternative Voting

Just wondered if there are any passions either way on this proposed change to our voting system ahead of Thursday's vote.

Well i'll let you figure out which way i voted LOL

Lets just say that in 97 i spent alot of time trying to get the labour party elected , the consequences of that labour goverment had a long term effect on me LOL

Yes....i'm passionate about almost evereything perp. Every chance i get to vote i vote. Even if i don't have a strong feeling about the issue.
We don't get to have a say very often. So whenever we do i vote.

In the old days it was only the higher classes that had the chance or right to vote. It wasn't until 1928 that women got full rights to vote. Some died for that cause.

So i'm blowed if i'm gonna let a vote go by without me having a say.

My ancestors would be proud of me. No apathy here.

I normally vote for the opposite of what the tories want. But i'm leaving myself undecided until i'm in the voting booth with my pen in my hand.

I'm a great believer in voting as well Del . . . I've very little time for people who don't bother voting, yet still moan about all and everything.

There are people still dying for the right we take for granted in parts of the world aren't there.

I think I'm one of those floating voters, I've never had a strong allegiance to any party, rather that I've voted for who I've thought would do best for the country . . . that I haven't always got right.

Would also like to see voting made compulsory.

Good point Perp re: voting in other parts of the world.

I'll never forget the queues of people lined up to vote in Iraqs first "real" election. The suicide bombers were out in force that day. And the millions of Iraqi's knew it too. But it wasn't going to stop them voting. I could of cried for them that something we soooo take for granted was such a liberation for them.

I do think there should be a box on the ballot paper that says "none of the above". If there is no-one suitable for you to vote for.

Well i suppose the vote does lead to a more civilized way for the corrupt to govern a country and gives the tyrants a nice sounding title and they get to choose which tyrant gets to rule them

Me too, Del. Although I would phrase it as "a pox on all your candidates"

You can always spoil your ballot paper/s though. You count as having turned out, at the very least.

LOL me too.

As for the non of the above, you can deliberatly spoil your ballot. Spoiled ballots are counted and therefore you are making a statement.


Oh and this generally sums up how i feel about the tories - probably best not to watch this while your at work

You must have had a rude awakening, MrL That was the first year I voted LibDem instead of (New) Labour, I thought the writing was writ very large on the wall.

I agree with Clutz that voting should be compulsory (am an avid Nanny Stater when it suits me) plus we should be able to vote online, then there's postal votes and proxies so there'd be no excuses.

On the other hand, what's the point when we're not an independent nation? And I'm not referring to the EU > I would dearly love there to have been a United Selected States of Europe It's all that horrid man de Gaulle's fault
