See thread title.
Can anyone explain the pros and cons of each?

with certain auto batteries, the switch is sensitive enough that even a noise can set it off - this makes those particular ones unsuitable for pocketing in a noisy environment (084 stylee batteries a couple of years ago would fire if you sneezed close by, and there were way too many folks getting hot chests. OK - I got way too many sound-activated firings).
That said, they're handy for dangling from the corner of the mouth when you need both hands for something else.
Manuals, though, are a little less prone to false firing, but do need you to have a hand free in order to press the button. And their cut-off - if they have one - tends to be a little longer before it kicks in. Autos with a six-second cutoff are, in my opinion, the work of Santa (the dyslexic devil).

Hi, Hopefully someone more knowledgable will be along for you in a minute but my understanding is that you have more control with the manual batteries and it's less likely to go off accidentally in your pocket.
Hope someone else can add a bit more for you :-)

Also with a manual you can drip juice without fear of damaging the battery. Some or most? auto batteries have a hole at the top for the sensor or something. Manuals don't. (Don't quote me on this but I'm pretty sure I'm right.)
