Another person of royalty that the tax payer will have to fund for. I knew this was going to come up and have soooo resisted in responding. BUT... the 'net' income to the UK is positive, the two 'lads', Wills & Harry have both done, and are still doing jobs that the majority of us would not do... i.e. fighting in Afghanistan & 'search & rescue' operations. We do not choose our parents, but this current generation of 'royals' are people to be proud of. This may of course change and then probably, my opinion. But while we have these with us, I wish them well, plus some 'escapism' is good for all of us in this sometimes dreadful world. Yes, there are 'hangers on' but in any family you'll get the 'black sheep', I have no time for Andrew, but I feel they are addressing these issues, and as for the Queen & Phil, would you still get out of bed at the crack of dawn, at their age, to attend some boring function, but knowing it was helping others.

fiddles Alert! I just heard a newscaster say "This morning Prince William took the Duchess of Cambridge by the back passage". . . If he did that she wouldn't have got pregnant!

Absolutely spot on. They have no control over which family they are born to any more than a starving child in Africa does. It is what you DO with the life you are born into that counts. I cannot stand Charles, Camilla, Andrew et al. But credit where it's due. Those boys lost their mother at a tender age. Doesn't matter how rich or poor you are, that's one hell of a disaster to any child. Yet they have matured into men who have CONTRIBUTED something to their country unlike their father!! Fair play to them I say. As for Lizzie. I don't know how she does it at her age.

Nodding in agreement Raffles . It's nice to hear good news. I'm from Scotland, you may have all noticed and my father is from the Irish Republic. We're just not fans of the Royals, but William and Kate seem like such a nice young couple and they also seem much more down to earth than the previous generation of Royals. I'm so pleased that mum and baby are doing well

Hear hear Raffles . . . I've got fed fed up with the inane TV coverage today, more from the dross that various presenters have spouted than the event itself. This Royal birth doesn't change my life in any way whatsoever, I still have the same old nonsense to deal with like everyone else . . . but I'll celebrate it as I did Andy Murray winning Wimbedon. Because like the sunshine, it's uplifting news for me.
