Surely this is not a good thing as it might burn away the nicotine/flavor.

This is when rebuilding a vivi nova or anything similar. The head gets hot and the heat spreads down the center post. Am I doing something wrong here?!

The 4 wrap coil is in the center so I do not understand why.
