Flat top or nipple depends on what mod they are going in, some won't work with the wrong type.

Might get shot down here, but i use unprotected batteries without a kick or any fuse or anything, I know when my batteries are lw because the cape drops off, if something shorts i can immediately tell and pull the battery, safe chemistry batteries are best, AW IMR's or Efest etc. there safer because they shouldn't explode, and prevents thermal runaway. No offence, but jolly good you for knowing when short is occurring & perhaps you'd like to share the details for those who don't know, specially if they decide to take your advice about unprotected batteries without any other form of external battery protection. I'll give you IMRs, re safer chemistry for what it's worth, but Efest do IMR & the slightly less safe, but a bit more volatile so protected ICR, if your Efest battery says it's protected it's an ICR. Any lithium battery can go thermal, the difference between 'safer chemistry' IMR & ICR is 'slightly less volatile' meaning an IMR is less likely to vent with flame, to emphasis less likely to vent with flame but that doesn't mean it won't vent if damaged by fore-instance a short. It can still get bloody hot enough to make your mod get to hot to handle & vent serious pressurised gas, & seriously this can happen fast enough that by the the time you figured out somethings wrong, its already too late, specially if it's on a straight line trajectory with your face. Use protected, a vapesafe fuse or a kick.

When a short in a coil you'll know rather quickly because of the heat expelled through the switch.
I did note i'd get shot down and i did... lol
I use drippers mainly and i always know when the coils have shorted cos i get a slight shock in my pinky, pull the battery and leave it for a while to settle then check it with a multimeter.

iLardyboy Panasonic, Samsung, Sanyo, AW & Efest all good brands of battery if genuine, (Efest & AW tend to be pannies rebranded by chinese distributors) Seller looks like they've got good feedback & they've been on ebay a while so you takes your chance, personally I tend to stick to this guy on ebay - big_f_d_d - also known as torchythebatteryboy on the forums. Only thing you need to be careful of using protected batteries is because they've got an extra PCB (protection circuit board) in them they can be quite a few mm longer then non-protected, standard 18650 - 65mm long, protected can be up to 69mm long so you need to know they're gonna fit.

I use Panasonic, both protected and unprotected. I did a battery test a couple of months ago and the Panny's shone in all areas. They can be had at a very good price too. Jag. (Sounds like I am talking about Condoms ......)
