This was in my handbag when it 'exploded.' It wasn't connected to a unit as it was my spare for the day. I don't know what the answer is but please be really careful how you store your batteries, this occurred at 6am this morning, luckily I was up and getting ready as we've been diving. I dread to think what could have happened had I still been sleeping and not able to act quickly.

Sorry this happened, but hopefully this will enlighting people to store battery's properly in a battery case. Luckily you weren't hurt
This most likely happened buy shorting out on a set of keys, that created a electrical circuit

The battery was in a separate compartment in my handbag, nothing touching up against it, although the resulting burning has burned receipts that were in my bag!

I think I will have to invest in a proper storage facility for my batteries from now on. Although I have to say that my luck with batteries this last couple of weeks has been rather dicey to say the least!

Thanks Scylla, I did debate whether or not to post this, but was advised that it would serve as a visual warning as to what can and obviously does happen to batteries from time to time

Any metal in the handbag that could cause a circuit ?, it could have been a loose coin that touched the centre pin and the out case if the plastic had peeled back by inserting into charger numerous times even the Prof done this , if not I would inform who you brought from so they can let the manufactor know batch number ect

Oh (((Dee))), you really have had some bad luck with your batteries I agree with Digi, it's usually something metal, damaged casing or stacking unpaired batteries that cause them to be unstable. So if non of those things fit the bill, do inform who you bought them off.

Chrissie batteries are the bain of my life at the moment LOL!
Jerry yes it does have a zipper enclosure but it was sitting open (and the zip is plastic) on the floor by my bed, there was nothing metal touching the battery otherwise I may have had more issues as I had to grab it with some kitchen roll as soon as I realised what was hissing. Just another battery disaster LOL.

I agree Lilac,i presumed the safer chemistry of the AWs would prevent things like this happening.Oh well its certainly opened my eyes a little more as i always carry a spare battery around in my pocket. Its like carrying a mini bomb around and could cause serious injury.

OMG! That was a close call Dee, thank goodness you were up and about when it happened!
A bit scary as Lilac & Ian have said for it to happen with the IMR's . . . mind you, I never realised anything metallic could act as a circuit, so that's something learned.
