Hi Can someone please help me with my coiling woes? I'm using an evod with standard single coil heads. I'm recoiling with 2mm silica wick 0.18 kanthal A1 wire wrapped 4 times. This is giving me 1.8 ohms tested with a multi meter. So the problem I'm having is the first few puffs are fine then I'm getting little vapour production as well as the collar that holds the coil seems to be getting very hot!
Any ideas on how to cure this as I'm just about ready to go back to shop bought coils
Cheers Chris

Are you putting a second piece of the silica over the top of the coil? I do that and it works perfect.

Sound to me that the wick is strangled and the coil isn't getting enough juice. Try using a thin needle or a straightened paperclip as a splint to support the wick while you are coiling; when you remove the needle it will give the wick some room to breathe. Keep on trying, and you'll get there in the end!

I'm currently wrapping directly to the wick, just wrapped a micro coil using 0.20 and cotton, I'll see how that one works out!

Out of interest? (maybe connected...)
are the grommets in your "old" heads white/cream in colour or grey/translucent?
The white ones can burn (the "legs" of the coil can cause trouble....)

They are the white grommets but I've not seen any evidence if them being burnt

My lady uses an evod and I've tried umpteen coils and wick to get it to work perfect, the best I've found is the silica with the 1.8mm and about 3-4 wraps. I do like chykensa says and stick a sewing needle through the wick, wrap the wire, fit it to the head then remove the needle, place a piece of wick over the top, fit the chimney part and trim the wick. So far this method has been totally faultless, not a single dry hit, gurgle, leak or anything, it just works every time.

Ok so I've just tried the needle trick which seem to work ok, but now I getting a tight draw, as if one of the air holes is blocked! Any ideas on this?
Cheers

Haven't a clue, you could check the little tiny air holes are clear, there's three around the chrome part.

I just follow the Super-Shiny guide to microcoils and cotton it's pretty much fool proof, must be as I can do it with a 95% success rate, forget silica csmith10 the man really does know what he's talking about it's perfect.

Every single time I used cotton and micro coil it just ended up leaking, gurgling and all that jazz. I use silica and a few wraps and no problems at all.
