Advice on kanger coil heads (for recoiling)

I've always used dual coil heads for the original aerotank. I have about 30-40 used stashed for future recoiling. I have read peeps are recoiling the single heads in these as its easier to coil the single heads.

Can anyone suggest where I can order the single coil heads for the original kanger, please.

Uk myepack, china fasttech, when you coil the single heads you need to put a 2nd chimney grommet on upside down to createtheseal with the atty centre post.@zero

Thanks for the reply prr. Can you put the link on here for exactly which one to order on myepack. I always order my doubles from them and couldn't find the singles.

Also am I right to assume I can use the grommets off my many used dual coils?

Many thanks. I did see that one but didn't realise its interchangeable with the aerotank.

Yes I will remember your advice re turning a grommet upside down.

No probs @zero, I microcoil and cotton or rayon these on my aerotanks, much better than stock heads.

Getting fed up forking out for so many new heads every month. They only seem to be lasting 3 days before the liquid discolours and I start to taste it. Read on that page you posted a link to on myepack under reviews someone had the same problem on that coil and turned the existing grommet upside down?

I did try recoiling the single in a double for fun but used Gplatt LOL. (0.3 ohm).I've got loads of 30 gauge wire. What ohm can I achieve with that in a recoiled areo? I believe most are using 28 gauge, is that correct.

I use .25 kanthal, 6 wraps around a 2ml mandrel comes out at about 1.8ohms There is a table bySuper Shiny in the guides and tutorial board outlining wire gauges wraps and ohmage etc, regard Paul. @zero

That's great thanks as my 30AWG is indeed the 0.25mm and shall refer to Shiny's excellent guides and tutorials.

Its not hard to use the duel coil heads for single coil builds. You just need to check that the cotton fill the bigger slot so there are no gaps for the liquid to leak in and flood.
Its quite easy once you have it back together, you can fluff up the cotton a bit and it should fill any gap there might be.
After the cotton is threaded with chimney, you can see a big gap



Now blow hard on the cotton ends and fluff


Now adding the cap squeezes the cotton down filling any space that may lead to leaking.

Thanks Hijack for the above guide. I did manage to do one about a week ago but it was just a practice. When I did some brief research prior, I also read that its a good idea to hold the coil central by using a smaller drill bit to the one used initially for winding the coil.
I have ordered some single coils which I hope will arrive in about 2 days. But shall have another go in the next couple of days on the dual to single too.

hijack when you are putting the coil into the head do you - a)put something through the coil to make sure it doesn't move ? , b) do you raise the coil up from the bottom of the slot somehow ? , c) are you using a 1.5mm internal diameter wrap ?

I ask these questions, because I like the look of the Protank 3's and Mini Protank 3's better than the 2's , but the coil heads aren't interchangeable.

Turning the second grommet seems the popular way of doing it but if you put both grommets the correct way up it makes a tighter seal preventing any liquid from getting through to the chimney channel. Well in my experience it seems to.

I'm not saying theres a right or wrong way afterall this is modifying from how it's supposed to be. I put both the correct way up and it works perfectly every time without leaks or gurgling.

Super-Shiny our super glow in the dark fella has a guide and if you look carefully they seem to be both the correct way up with no mention of anything to the contrary.

However I have had grommets before that are too deep if you get my meaning and when used can sit too far down the chimney and cover your cotton preventing them from wicking properly. These may have been on the dual coils originally. If you are using a single coil head make sure you don't use the dual coil head grommets if they came with the deeper type.
