Lettie,
I think you should go for it for both your dad and mums sake.
I would have thought there was much less risk for your dad in vaping than smoking.
The thing is also that your dad has requested that you pick one for him so its his wish also. If you don't you may regret it.
As Scylla says if he can get used to maybe the 18mg its bound to be a more healthy option for him.
Also it may add years to his life as after 63 years on cigs every day is a gamble.
Just my thoughts on the matter Lettie.
Ken. xx

Chrissie, 901 it is then!
Of course I am worried about him trying an e-cig - but I don't think I will be half as worried as I am with him chuffing away on an analogue.
He has the most awful cough at the moment, and he has a moustache that is a nicotine shade of grey........!
his doctor gave up on trying to quit the cigs years ago, and that flaming doctor also smokes for goodness sake!
I will get my dad the 901. and I will keep a very careful eye on him, and I will instruct me mother on how to use it.
I will also do as much research as i can.
xxxxxxxxxx

Ken - we cross posted i think1 And thank you so much for those wise words. My dad is the most stubborn HUMAN I have ever met in my entire life. He is an ex Regimental Police Sergeant, and don't we know it!!! In his will, he has stated that he wants 20 cigs and a lighter to be buried with him. I rest my case.

Lettie,
Just my 2p'orth...but like the others, I don't think e-cigs will do him as much harm as analogues. I had a heart attack in 2002 and still smoked, increasing to 40* a day, until I started on the e-cigs 19th June. I didn't have angina, but was told that angina attacks are brought on by exertion anyway, whereas heart attacks "just 'appen". I do have a spray in case I get an attack, but I never have, so have never used it. If it was me knowing about e-cigs just after my heart attack, I would have gone for it.
I SO know what your dad meant about having 20 and a lighter buried with him. My dad (rest his soul) also had a heart attack, and whilst he was having it, asked my mother for a cig!
Hope this helps, and good luck.
Kath

Have to agree with what others are saying. Smoking with a heart condition should be a no no. However, e cigs are a lesser evil. Even if he gave some of the cigs up, it would be an improvement for himself and your mum. I agree that he should keep away from high nicotine though.

Go for it Lettie - it just has to be a less risky alternative.

'In his will, he has stated that he wants 20 cigs and a lighter to be buried with him.'
Lettie I couldn't help laughing at your dad's comment, it's the sort of annoying thing I've said myself just to persuade people to leave me alone!
I've got a fit, healthy, non-smoking GP who has been gently chiding me about my smoking for 20 years, but in a very good-humoured way. I've always been very fit in spite of smoking, but I had a really bad chest infection in the winter and the cough has lingered on and on. When I saw him a few weeks ago and said I was thinking of trying ecigs he said he would be pleased if I gave it a try because anything was better than the real thing. He believes that the available stop-smoking aids are only successful with the minority of people who truly want to stop anyway, and that ecigs shouldn't be condemned out of hand, because they might succeed where other things fail. As he said, we can't know yet that ecigs are safe, but we know the others are not.

Sounds like you have a fantastic GP Inn. My GP said more or less the same thing
