Hi after seeing thr thread about the goblin from gear best ( what a bargain ) my big brother very kindly ordered me one ,not sure when it will arrive but I've been swotting up on the build the guide is fantastic but I read even you experts have had to get it just right to prevent leaking. I've been building my neighbours orchid 3 for him as for some reason he can't do it so I'm confident on the coil bit but I know from experience that wicking is different on every tank . So what do you use pads, roll, rayon ??? And could you give me any tips on the wicking please as I know the goblin is very popular on this forum , will 2mm 28 kanthal be okay ?? Thank you for any tips you can give I find them so useful

I generally use 0.4mm kanthal, 2mm diameter 9 wraps. This gives 0.5 ohms, and is aimed at around 35-40W. 8 wraps of 0.35 would give the same resistance but would run better at 25-35 watts due to the thinner wire producing a warmer vape. 7 wraps of your 0.28mm kanthal would give 0.7 ohms and run decently at around 20-25 watts.
3mm coils are possible, but you need to be really careful not to short against the chimney walls, so 2mm would be an easier start point.
As for the wicks, I've been using jap cotton pads without any problems.

Thank you that really helps and makes a lot of sense , I will take your advise and start with 2mm I do prefer 2.5mm for the wicking I shall see how I go

2mm diameter will be a lot easier than 2.5mm, as I've just discovered. And it'll be easier to fit the smaller volume of wick into the tiny deck space. Again, as I've just discovered.

Yeah, I just like making things more difficult than they need to be. Apparently that's how I learn to do things the easy way next time...

I used Tom's guide the first time I set up mine, and it was perfect, have continued with the same set up ever since with no problems at all

Thank you I'm going with the 2mm the deck looks very small so I would think that's just right. I'm going to follow @tomstorys guide as he explains everything clearly so easy for me to follow , I'm sure it will be fine I'm really looking forward to this

I got my goblin last Saturday. Followed the excellent guide from Tom. I did manage to get the wicking right on the fourth attempt. On studying the guide I think my mistake was not trimming the jap cotton correctly. I've found that for me, cutting the cotton at more of an angle and leaving a small tale of cotton just inside the top of the juice channel on the deck has worked a treat. If you follow the guide from Tom you won't go far wrong, maybe just a small adjustment here or there for your own personal requirements.

Thanks @striker I have seen a method on YouTube where the cotton is fluffed up and you don't put anything in the channels then when you put the chimney on it pushes a small amount into the top of the channels but I'm going to follow toms and take on board your tips to I'm sure wth a few goes I'll find my way
