Built a vertical coil on the SquapeR 'B' deck, same spec as my usual coils . Bit quick and dirty and I'm not sure it's any better than a regular build but had 5 mins so thought I'd have a play.

Ha, 5mins to build phatfil but and an hour to find the camera gear, set up for pics and get them up. Yep, twist up about 1m at a time. That one is 0.20mm round and 0.1mm x 0.5mm ribbon, a 'Tiger' coil. About twice the surface area of an equivalent single wire coil, ie, same dia, wraps and resistance.

oh dear you have dropped the proverbial cat amongst the pigeons now @scooby i may have to google this wire twisting all night now.. Im finding 0.4mm wire fine to coil with but as soon as i start coiling thinner wire and try pinching/flaming in tweezers i am too heavy handed and end up with squashed or deformed coils.. i bit the bullet the other day and ordered 100 x pre made 2 ohn coils

One advantage of twisting, particularly nickel phatfil is that it work hardens, some find it easier to work with then. Coil building is a skill that can be learnt, much like soldering tiny boards but less expensive while you do Google 'images of twisted coil builds' to see some weird and wonderful coils.

I use .34mm Kanthal and wind up about 1.5 metres by threading it through the handle of a saucepan, gripping the ends in pliers. It then takes only a minute to twist the wire to breaking point, and away I go, using my Kurocoiler which works well with this diameter and rigidity of wire. 7 turns comes out at about .8ohm, more than adequate for my purposes!! I know that *-SARIN-* will moan about me not twisting using a power drill, but that's in the garage and a saucepan is 4 paces away

I don't use a power drill ether chykensa for round wire twisting holding with pliers and letting a pan spin on the other end, or even a tin of beans is a good way. For round and ribbon you need to get the round wire running along one side of the ribbon only, no twists, or you get little kinks that aren't useable, so I use a hand drill stopping every now and then and checking with a loupe, I like consistency and aim for 1.3mm twist pitch for 0.20mm round/0.1mm x0.5mm ribbon and 1.5mm twist pitch for 0.25mm/0.1 x 0.5mm ribbon just me, I know. I'm not a that's about right person, I'm a that is right person

@jc72 First few mins thought it was out of this world, but don't you always Then I compared it with another regular build exactly the came but horizontal and couldn't tell them apart except for a slightly more airy draw on the vertical. Back on them now and seem quite similar flavour and vapor wise but the vertical is deffo more airy and a little quieter. No leaks yet but I will need longer to decide if it's worth refining.
