That's a real shame - I've got four of the yellow 16340 Kaidomain batteries and they are fine in my Mk1 (but it is an old one) - they also protected batteries (says so on the battery) and 1000mah. I've been really pleased with them.
I've got a "new" Mk1 - I'll dig it out and try them in it. Back in a bit...
[edited to add - the "lump" is the protection chip by the way)

Right - I've just tried two different yellow Kaidomain 16340s in both my black and gold "new" Mk1 SDs and they are fine - sounds like either you have a funny SD or a bad batch of batteries (I'd bet on the latter)... Shame because I'm getting nearly 12 hours out of these batteries,

Prof, if you knew my vaping history you wouldn't be a bit surprised to find that I've had a duff batch of a product that's proved 100% perfect and wonderful up to now My SD is a fairly early model, I've got 2 nose-ends, tried the spare and it's the same - there are no ridges or anything inside that could get in the way - and when the battery with the lesser lumps (out of the pack of 2) is inserted bum first, it doesn't screw up fully but it works. I need to get the inside machined away a bit more. That'll be the day scylla

The batteries are a fraction longer (because of the protection circuit, and I've heard that with protected batteries some older SDs won't screw up all the way - I suspect it's the spring not compressing enough - however, mine dates from April 09 and is fine - perhaps you could (if you are brave) ask trog....
