Never mind all that political stuff, the real contest is with our Aussie friends. What a third day. England all out for 289 after taking the last Australian wickets 4 for 43. Leaving australia to bat for two days chasing 412 to win. Personally I think England should have declared on 400 and asked Australia to bat for the last 4 overs or so in the gloom. However given the wicket in Cardiff I think we have a good chance to take this tomorrow. 15 wickets in one day, sets us up for a great last day or so. Go England.

Agreed Bobsbeer, reckon a win before close of play, particularly as Sunday is a bit iffy. Reckon Moin Ali might have a big impact, and don't forget the extra half hour if a result is likely!

sod the cricket lets have more anti tory politics, thing is 99% of folk who may consider themselves tory are ignorant of the dogma to which they think they subscribe (or are they??) tory dogma is quite clear that there are those born to rule and the rest of us proles are just sheep ready to be shorn... and if you dont find that offensive then perhaps you are tory...

It's only to be expected with all these Yorkshiremen in the team

Some wrote off this England team before the start as they are too young to take on the experience of the Aussies. This test has shown otherwise. Hopefully we will see more of the same in the rest of the series.

Great thread we are doing great so far, let's hope the football team are taking notes Do we have a men's football team worth speaking of ... they've only played Sunday league teams lately. And if a certain Mr Stirling's (doffs cap to the obvious saviour of the game ) attitude is anything to go by, we never will. A second swimming pool in the mansion is far more important! But yes, good luck to the boys, after a lot of knocks. ETA... why don't some of these damn smilies (grumpies) work?

What an ill conceived and divisive post, I'm almost lost for words at your attempt to re ignite bad feeling on the forum and I apologise to the OP in advance for derailing the thread. I did say almost losjt for words, so let's see the opposing view in an attempt to lighten the mood How about we double fuel tax to keep the poor of the roads, the govt will be over the moon with the re energisation of public transport and Boris will be well chuffed with the reinsurgance of the push bike. This of course will leave more room on the roads for the rich and with volume reduced less damage to our roads and therefore less expenditure for road repairs and a reduction in road tax. its not all one sided though, oh no, the poor whizzing around on their push bikes can work off all those consumed Maccidees and Turkey twizzlers bringing to them health and improved self esteem. I was watching Frank Skinner last night who was relaying how when he was a child growing up in the West Midlands how it was easier to identify the poor in those days as they were all so thin being unable to afford much in the way of food. Fast forward 30 years he said and im watching Jeremy Kyle and I can't help but notice how all the poor people are enormous. The punchline, well if we've achieved nothing else in the last 30 years at least we've fed the poor. You gotta laugh eh, can you guess who I voted for yet

Poor sheep, ain't that mutton Well we pay for them to breed so it's partly our fault I suppose, lamb for me dinner tonight, fish fingers and smash mash for the mutton.

This thread is about our contest with the Aussies, not the toffs in London. That just ain't cricket. The real battle is happening on a dodgy Welsh field. With steely eyes staring down our antipodean friends in a duel to the death, over less than a fags worth of ashes burnt god knows when, after the team ran out of charcoal, for their after match barbie to cook those shrimps, and burnt the stumps. They belong to us, and we need real British heroes to step up and be counted. We need grit and determination, and good old British stubbornness. In short losing our ashes is not an option, and we need to recognise the herculean contest happening as I write. Go England and give em what for.
