On another thread recently someone mentioned feeling that one of their juices was coating their teeth.
Now, one of my motiviations for stopping smoking was to protect my teeth. I was sick of them being stained and I lost a molar last year to gum disease!
Has anyone any knowledge as to how these juices may effect our oral health? Some of the sweeter ones, do they have sugars in them?
Now I know I should ask my dentist and I did. I have a new NHS dentist and he didn't seem to know what I was on about, in fact he said very little during the appointment and what he did say was in sort of broken English/Polish!
any comments?

Well my dental hygienist seemed OK about it when I last went - mind you my teeth are a bit of a lost cause!. A bit of bleeding from the gums is normal when giving up smoking and I have noticed that the staining on my tongue has practically gone now.

Obviously they are better than smoking for your mouth.
I'm only guessing about the rest. But I suspect that what you eat and drink is more important to your oral health, as well as brushing often. I can't see them being that bad for your mouth.
It's like going round your house turning off the lights, when you should be worried about the shower that's on upstairs all day.

I had a loose front tooth early in my vaping days , I realised eventually that I was biting down to hard on my drip tips

So, has anyone discussed vaping with their dentist? Is there sugar in the sweeter juices? We had a thread about discussing vaping with Doctors, I'm really interested in the Dentist's perspective? I did try to ask my one

I told mine I was using one and had stopped smoking.
He was delighted I'd stopped smoking, didn't know much about the e-cig, so I didn't get any sort of a good answer to what he thought of them. Maybe next time I go he'll have more info.

I did try to ask my one Vaping juices need to be sugar free as it would turn to treacle when it hits the atomizer and would stop working almost instantaneously and the glycerine is actually a sugar substitute for those intolerant to sugar so I would not expect any vendors to use any sugar based flavourings. If they did they would soon know when everyone's atties turn into jam.

Karma, the only info. I could find was this on the ecf forum. Mostly positive comments, one not so good near the end and one which is obviously from an anti-smoking and anti-vaping, umm, 'person'.

Ok, thanks Kev So if glycerine is a sugar substitute does it still do the same damage to teeth as sugar? and.......... are darker juices more likely to stain teeth? Sorry, I think about these things

Sorry, I think about these things Not sure about the darker juices staining. I vape Butterscotch religiously and since having my teeth whitened a year ago using a very cheap Groupon voucher, not vanity I promise just a bargain hunter I have not noticed any staining and I tend to drink a fair bit of coffee. However here is a link to the effects of Glycerine on the teeth, which is widely used in tootpaste ??? but it would suggest you brush again after using toothpaste with water to get rid of the glycerine in toothpaste as it forms a layer on the teeth which can effect enamel levels. A bit backward if you ask me. ??? Noticed some of the posters below the link go against the info so unsure tbh but something to bear in mind. beautyroutinethatworks.blogspot.com/2008/03/glycerin-in-toothpaste.html

Thanks Anne That was an interesting read! I would have thought that the biggest problems facing smokers and gum health was the carbon monoxide not the nicotine and that seems to be the case in all but one post! i.e lack of oxygen! Dry mouth is another thing, i've upped my water consumption since vaping but to be honest my mouth doesn't seem to be any drier than when smoking. i'm also on prescription meds that can cause a dry mouth. I pressume that gum disease is multifactoral, i'm still at risk but probably a slightly lesser risk than smoking!

You got me looking all over the 'net for info then Karma! Lol. People seem to have so many different theories. The link below is promoting a book they're trying to sell, but they don't think that brushing and flossing are the answer to preventing tooth decay. ??? www.curetoothdecay.com/Tooth_Decay/tooth_decay_overview.htm
