That story is 13 years old. I suspect they may have closed that loophole by now.

You can through an insurance company Telematics and Black Box Insurance . I don't know how accurate they are, and they track your every mile. You story reminds me of a my father, probably in the late sixties/early seventies. He was a pulled over for speeding, from a standing start at a traffic light. He proved that car couldn't accelerate fast enough to hit the speed he was accused of going.

41 in a 40!! I would have argued that one. Too close to the actual speed limit. The Police would have to prove accuracy of their equipment to start with. Why weren't you offered a speed awareness course? You were so close to the limit I would have thought that should have been an option. I certainly wouldn't have rolled over and paid up for being 1 mph over the limit, it's within the allowable tolerance for speed inaccuracy.

I'm pretty sure your allowed a 10% allowance on speeding so if you were going 44 in a 40 then you should have been okay and not had a fine, I had a speeding ticket through work not so long ago doing 54 in a 30 and knew when I seen the speeding van that I couldn't slow down quick enough so just carried on but they sent a letter to work for them to give to the driver at the time (me) and I had to send my details off to say I was driving but nothing has come from it. No reply, no fine and no awareness course and this must have been last Sept/Oct..

Jesus 54mph in a 30 is approaching a ban! Your lucky! I was in a bit of shock at the time that that road was a 30 as there wasn't a sign on that stretch of road at the time although there has been one placed there recently, I do count myself lucky but wouldn't say I was driving dangerously, I'm a delivery driver so I just drive to the road conditions although maybe I shouldn't, it needs to be done sometimes.. Also it was the fist time I'd been caught so if they did try giving me points I would have claimed against it and tried to get the course.
