They have only just caught up and got the hang of making reasonable sized 18650 mods, they used to be like bricks and I started mod making because they didn't make what I wanted, now the market is full of well sized 18650 mods. For me more battery power is the only compelling reason to go large as car147 said the limit of an 18650 is a good match for 22 mm toppers. There must be thousands of Hana DNA clones about you could re-purpose and Hammond 4x2x1" 1591 G-bricks, plus lost of other mods that size or bigger, but to me this is a retrograde step YMMV.

And anyway I've usually got a mod in my hand 99% of the time so a pocket is rarely needed Yep but it would be nice to able to use all your tanks on all your mods right? Yes it would be good and like 3mm on width would do it and not add too much bulk. Also it would help the mod stand up better having a slightly larger footprint

It is going back to 2014 IMO, if you have a 25 mm wide box use the room for more battery.

I've just got a clone VCMT, which is great, even with my relatively high-ohm build in it, and the only mod which I own that it doesn't look ridiculous on is the IPV5. I take your point entirely Get Off My Cloud, something with a couple of extra mm on the width of the casing would be adequate. With sub-ohming becoming so mainstream now, 25mm tanks are becoming more common and a slightly wider mod would be great!

I wish all you guys well in your dreams for wider mods suitable for your 25mm toppers but I just hope that it will not be to the detriment is those of us who prefer compact 22mm mods and toppers ... much in the same way that our mtl brethren have been neglected by manufacturers pursuing the mainstream subohm trend.

But surely a single is always going to struggle, especially as you say the wattage is increasing, a lot of these 25mm RTA tanks are quite happy at 100w and over therefore more directed at your lipo, twin and triple 18650 set up's. For sure these tanks are capable of handling more power but they also perform great at more moderate levels. Right now i have a dual 22 gauge kanthal build .2ohm 3mm ID coils running at 65W in a Crius Plus 25mm tank it's a lovely warm vape, great flavour, good clouds. Sig 75W,Sig Spark 90W, Evic Mini 75W, iStick Pico 75W the list goes on and on could all provide the same vape with the bonus of being pocket friendly but all are useless for this tank because they don't accommodate tanks of that diameter. If they made the mods a couple of mm fatter they could accommodate the larger diameter tanks and not lose anything really in terms of pocket friendliness is what i'm saying. I'm surprised there aren't more compact wedge-shaped boxes that take a 26650. And guessing they'd be lighter and more hand-friendly than a twin-18650 box.
