Apparently, asking for a 'White Coffee' is now taboo.....Picture, if you will, the scenario when I visited the Cafetaria at Queens Hospital, Romford, where my mum is at present residing.
Me: 'Hello Person Behind the Counter. I'd like a white coffee to take away please'.
Person Behind Counter: 'Uh!!!'
Me (again): 'A white coffee to take away please'.
Person Behind Counter: ((Whispers something to person 2 behind counter & points to me)).
Person 2 Behind Counter: 'We have Capucchino, Latte or Expresso, all in small, regular or large'.
Me: 'Which one is most likely to resemble or closely pass as a white coffee?'
Person 2 Behind Counter: 'Latte'.
Me: (Getting a tad vexed by now): 'And what does a Latte comprise of?'
Person 2 Behind Counter: 'Coffee, Hot Water & Milk'.
Me: 'Is that not the same as a White Coffee then?'
Person 2 Behind Counter ( Looking at Person 1 for confirmation before answering): 'Errr..Yeah, I fink so'.
Me: 'So.......Just to recap then..... I had a White Coffee made with Coffee, Hot Water & Milk in a cafe with my breakfast this morning, which set me back 90p, as I recall.......Whereas, you would like to sell me a Latte ( made with Coffee, Hot Water & Milk ), which, I think you'll agree, is basically a White Coffee, but for the bargain price of £1.60p. But I can't ask for a White Coffee. Am I correct?'
Person 2 Behind Counter: 'Errrrm........Yep'.
Me: 'Would you be aware of the present availability of a hospital bed at this establishment?'
Person 2 Behind Counter: 'Errr........Dunno'.
Me: 'Then may I suggest you make tentative enquiries, as a surgical procedure may be imminent, concerning the removal of said Latte ( made with Coffee, Hot Water & Milk) from your darkest regions......Good day'.
Person 2 Behind Counter: 'Sorry, was that Regular or Large Sir?'
Me: ' Twat!!!!'......(( Exits Cafetaria ))
The End............................

FGS, wonder how many years of training it takes to become an idiot. Next time, if there ever is one, explain it a bit simpler for them maybe? Black coffee with white milk, they might just about understand that.

Lol, they didn't even get "latte" right. It's not coffee, hot water, and milk. It's espresso topped up with hot milk. There's no hot water added, other than what goes into making the espresso. I'd only recommend it for someone who likes their coffee very milky. If you prefer normal strength white coffee, your best bet is to demand an "Americano" (espresso topped up with hot water) with a bit of milk added to it.

Funnily enough there has been a bit of an ongoing saga in the Scotland Metro the last few days apparently a few of the people who work in coffee shops are confused by customers who are now asking for a black coffee with milk , see Chris if you'd lived the right side of the border you would have known how to solve your problem without resorting too violence ???

confused by customers who are now asking for a black coffee with milk That's the thing. If a place is serving espresso-based drinks, rather than filter coffee, then there isn't really any such thing as a "white coffee", there are just various different ways of adding milk and/or milk froth to an espresso base, so it's easier for a customer to ask for whatever passes for the equivalent of a "black coffee" (usually an Americano) and say "with milk".

That would have confused matters even more kuro, as Americano wasn't written on the board..............

That would have confused matters even more kuro, as Americano wasn't written on the board.............. Well, if you can tell them what it is, you'd think they could make it. Otherwise it's like having gin and having tonic but refusing to serve gin and tonic because it's not written down somewhere. (I have previously been in places where I explained what an Americano was and got them to make one.)

Poor mum I thinks queens has problems anyway chris Good food helps people to regain their strength and energy. And IMO is much needed for hospitals
