I suffered from cold sores most of my life, my experience being much the same as described by Sue1952. A doc told me that the virus lodges somewhere at the base of the spine until something triggers an outbreak. The trigger, in my case, can be cold winds, sunshine, accidentally scratching my lip, dry lips and stress. There were times when I could get an outbreak simply by eating tomatoes or hot peppers. Any stressful occasion was bound to trigger an outbreak, so much so that I was plagued with them during my teenage years. As I grew older the outbreaks became less frequent and only get them now if I have a heavy cold.
Zovirax cream works for me. I have heard that it's available in tablet form in the USA but my doc says it isn't available here. The cream prevents the outbreak if I use it as soon as I feel the tingle and if I wake up with a sore the Zovirax stops it spreading. As far as I know, the coldsore is most contagious when the blister bursts. Wash your hands carefully after applying the cream and follow Sue's advice about using your own cup, etc. Be especially careful not to touch your eyes after touching the coldsore.
I doubt very much that your outbreak was triggered by vaping. It's more likely that you picked up the infection from someone or something when your resistance was low.

I found that mixing the base and flavours at the same time involved too many bottles and syringes. I pre-mix about 100 ml of base (nic/pg/vg)and add the flavours later.

Yes, it is a good show. I have learned lots from seeing clips from that show on various forums. For anyone who already knows about the eVic (very good tutorial), the diacetyl discussion starts at about 0.23.
Apologies in advance for being picky, but how confident are you in saying that generally speaking UK vendors have their house in order where diacetyl is concerned? I ask because I'm pretty sure that on a previous programme there was mention that diacetyl is most likely to be found in custard and vanilla flavours and it would be best to avoid them. Yet, lots of vendors sell juice containing those flavours. Many also sell the diy flavouring. Are you really absolutely confident that they have checked the ingredients in those juices and flavourings?
I'm glad you brought attention to the diacetyl warning on the vendor's website. How irresponsible of them to knowingly sell juice containing diacetyl. I will be more careful in future when buying online.
I'm assuming, Hifistud, that you are the presenter. If so, congratulations on an excellent programme and thank you for sharing your knowledge and experience.
P.S. Can't remember whether the advice was to avoid vanilla or cream flavours as well as custard, but I do recall the warning about custard flavours.

I had been wavering about having a smoke on and off over the past few days. Today I gave a smoker a lift in my car and I'm cured. To think I used to smell like that!

Which is safer: ego batteries or a mod with separate batteries and good battery charger?

That sounds scary, you can get it using an ecig? Maybe I should just try quitting full stop if that's the case. ??? I don't know Ewol and I'm sorry if my comment scared you. I had seen mention of it on other forums. In essence, the comments were that tiny fragments from the wick could find their way into the lungs which, in turn, could lead to silicosis. Those comments were from people who had decided to use cotton and possibly other materials for wicking. Dizzi's comments above make sense to me but if I'm going to be vaping long term I think I might check further into the safest material, whatever that may be. Trouble is that there's a lot of scaremongering about ecigs and it can be hard to distinguish sensible concerns from negative hype. It certainly can't be nearly as harmful as smoking. Cold turkey, of course, is the safest and best way to quit smoking. Unfortunately, most of us who use ecigs have found that we can't handle the cold turkey route.

There should be no adverse health consequences from inert materials used as wick - however, the same cannot be said of cotton or paper wicks, where a lack of juice can and will cause immediate and unfortunate consequences as the substrate chars and burns. I was wondering whether I should switch to using cotton wicks to avoid any chance of getting silicosis. This has put me right back to square one. How would the immediate and unfortunate consequences manifest themselves?

Interesting topic Jake, and one we should be concerned about especially if we encourage others to take up vaping. There appears to have been very little research into the effects of vaping, probably because research costs big money. Searching the internet a while ago, I came across this website www.e-savuke.com/en/usa_eu_eliquid.htm where the guy had compiled a list of suppliers. I could only find three juice makers on that list with lab reports on their product. Reading various forums, there is a suggestion that silica (silicon?) wicks could pose a health risk if tiny particles of wick are inhaled. Some people use cotton wicks to avoid that hazard.

Addict, if they are hosted by Proboards, they will have "Proboards.com" in the browser address, unless they have paid for a redirect domain name (something I'm thinking of doing after the upgrade). Thanks, Chrissie, for explaining. There are times when all this technology stuff makes me feel like a right dinosaur. I can't imagine what you must be going through with this upgrade. I'll keep my fingers crossed that you have no mishaps on Thursday.

Well, you learn something new every day! I had never heard of Proboards until I read this thread. I'm a member of a few forums. I wonder if there's some way of figuring out whether they are part of Proboards or use some other system?
Good luck to Chrissie on the switchover.

Yes, the basics are that simple. It gets more complicated depending on how fussy you are about getting the right flavour. For example, if you like menthol flavours you might need crystals and I dunno what else. I only do tobacco flavours and I'm very new to mixing. There are others on here who know a lot more about it than I. No doubt they will answer any specific questions you can think of.

Well, I'm no expert but looks like all you'll need is a bottle of vg, something to dilute it (vodka) and whatever flavour you like. That's the ingredients. You will need syringes and empty bottles for mixing.
