Hello would you consider getting a refurbished one from currys? They're as good as new, but a fair bit cheaper. It's defo worth considering. Is there a reason why she wants a netbook and not a laptop? You can get a decent laptop for that price which will run a lot faster then a netbook.

Netbooks are for wee ones... Get her a cheapo laptop or try freecyle/freegle then put linux on it... I had a netbook...didn't last me long. I now have a macbook pro. Fab apart from can't afford the update cos I lashed out on shiny things .... But seriously cheapo intel macbook from ebay (maybe a bit over budget) or a refurbished laptop and she'll be fine Then shove puppy linux on it or ubuntu or check out www.distrowatch.comfixed

Nice choice, I also have a Macbook Pro - the Mountain Lion update is OK, but you really need to ensure that the programs you're going to use are fully compatible, and won't require a cost upgrade. Linux is also good, have been using a Linux Mint 13 VM and it's very responsive. A little ironic running Un*x on Un*x, but hey.

Hmmm I work in IT and find that NetBooks are good and all, but dont expect it to last very long or perform to well for long. The amount of times we have managers jumping up and down for a netbook and then 2 months later coming back saying "hey you were right, lets get a laptop instead" is quite high.
A good option is a refurbed unit maybe?, if not check out the HP renewable program, I just brought a laptop from them for £480 (intel i7 business grade laptop) and I got £100 cashback. Now for an i7 that is an absolute bargin.
All the best anyways, and as I said, check out the refurbed. Check on GumTree or preloved. Always people out there selling things that are in warranty and good quality for a quick buck.
