Update on where I am and perhaps some help?

Hi folks,

So, to update anybody who does not know my back story:

Started smoking E-lites nearly 2 weeks ago, quite enjoyed them initially and then the lack of throat hit, battery life and expense took hold. I did some research and found my way here and some very helpful people guided me towards the Riva 1100.

So, the kit turned up on Friday (worked from home, ). I got straight in to vaping and started using the cartomisers with apple tabac. I enjoyed it as the Apple Tabac gave a decent throat hit, which was dry(I like) and the vapor it produced was spot on. Anyway the good lady decided that she would like to try the Riva(we are both trying to give up, imagine the cash we will be saving ) so I gave her my Riva and cartomiser with Apple and she also really enjoyed it. I have not had it back since.

I switched to using my other battery with the clearomiser and started to try the other liquids. So far, I have tried gingerbread, citrus spring, Honey tabac and eastern spice. To be honest the only one that i enjoyed was the eastern spice (apart from Apple) as it has a drier taste and a sense of tobacco.

Anyway, enough blathering on, my real question is this. I seem to prefer using the cartomiser as opposed to the clearomiser, the vape seems more authentic. The vape with the clearomiser seems....moist, almost clean!! I am not sure if that is explanation enough but the throat hit does not seem to be as powerful and the liquids seem to taste more bland.

I know that it is all down to personal preference and some might not feel the same way.

Moving forward, I have purchased the good lady a Riva which will hopefully arrive on Tuesday and I can get back to my cartomisers. I have also purchased another 5 pick n mix flavours for testing that include, Karoffee Kick, Arctic Honey, Strawberry Ice Cream, Banoffee Cream. I tried to find reviews of the grizwald flavours and based on those reviews that i did find those were the choices I made.

I also rather like Eastern Spice, have you tried the Black Cat yet?

Glad to hear you and your lady are doing so well, it's always nice when people give us an update
I also find the flavour muted in clearomisers. I only use them for early morning tobacco juice.
I Prefer the taste from cartomisers too. Many people use only them

That's a great update - glad you and the good lady are both enjoying vaping! Different people have different views on clearos and cartos, I think it's a question of personal taste and if you find that one of you is using clearos and the other cartos, so be it. It's the same with juices, taste is so very subjective we are all reluctant to recommend particular flavours. I think some good advice is to try a range of flavours in 5ml bottles from the major taste 'families', i.e. tobaccos, menthols, fruits, coffees, puddings, etc etc until you find what suits you. Also be aware that your tastebuds will change as you give up smoking, so what you dislike now you might love in a couple of weeks and vice versa

Can anybody recommend a menthol juice. I enjoyed the taste on e-lites and ought to get a liquid on board. Also how long do cartomisers generally last?

Karma, I haven't tried black cat, what type of flavour is it, I have seen it mentioned on the forum a few times.

Nice update bud,Iam still toiling with the choice between carts and clears,with a new tank coming I am going to be back on carts now,really got fed up with how many clears just leak,there is no toss away the tissues they all leak to me,flavours,some are great in clears,some dont work,example apple in a clear bland and tasteless,in a cart much better,but some clears work well with some flavours,I like my vivi nova on top of my lava tube,its taken 5 days to taste right but its already a good investment (doesn't leak yet) and my vanilla tastes great,well off to buy another Vivi nova now and some boge carts ready for my tank,another Jason/vape escape pen coming soon

I dare say my outlay in the next 2 weeks will be comparable to my normal Cig outlay as I play and try. I have been looking all around the forum and there is so much equipment(toys) to get involved with. I do like the look of the Vivi Nova, is that the 2.5? How do you find it performs?

You get 3 different OHM heads with your package,mine was ready fitted with the 1.8,the tank works well,no problems at all and if you get into creating your own coil and wicks,you have a great rebuildable that should save you a lot of money in the long run.

Hi mkcpapa - good update. Everyone does menthol juices, but if you want a fairly strong one, I think most people like this one:

Black Cat is a bit difficult to describe, but I would say there is a definite taste of liquorice in it. Nice juice.

You might like to try mintoff from VE - just like a Murray Mint. I can't vape it all day but it is yummy esp with a coffee after dinner

Cartomisers normally last 1 - 2 weeks, when I mainly used them I swapped to a new one every Sunday evening and it was lovely to stick a fresh cartomiser in and see the difference. Some people that vape less can eek them out longer, but for what they cost and to ensure they're always performing at their best I'd recommend 1 week maximum.

Blackcat gets a definate thumbs up from many of us on here, maybe get a sampler of it and see what you think?

If you are a menthol fiend have you considered getting a small tub of menthol crystals from your local chemist to add to premixes?
