That's very kind of ofcom and royal mail to write to 29 million people, then completely ignore the thousands upon thousands of night workers/ disabled/ elderly that don't want to open the door everyday to receive the neighbours mail.
8% of 29 million is a lot of ppl to ignore if you ask me. Not fair on people that can't get to the door being told they don't have a voice, and that they must cater for all the able bodied people that wouldn't have a problem going to a sorting office to collect mail.
I'm not one of the 2.5 million but shouldnt they be listened to?
This doesnt mean I'm a bad neighbour, I'm pleased that my 2 disabled neighbours don't have to suffer all my vape mail.
Bad move Royal Mail (again), it can't last.
End of rant.

Good point, I didn't consider that.

Opposite here in Ireland - they are no longer allowed leave with a neighbour...

Can't see it being much fun for the Postie either...walking up and down a street knocking on doors and then having to go back to the original address to put a card through.
From a vendors point of view, I doubt Paypal will give cover for parcels delivered to a different address, signed for or not.
So it's a lose lose situation for me, but typical of the Royal Mail.

I quite like it, but then I'm generally the poor sod that takes in the post for everyone around, as (although my neighbours don't work) I'm often the person who is in when they call. I'm talking normal post and all the UPS/DHL/Yell parcels as well). Must admit, I did nearly lose it a month or so back when one of the above rang the doorbell again and again, eventually forcing me out of the shower. If the parcel had been for me it would have been OK, but it wasn't. One thing I found out to my real cost was that if you opt for having an undelivered parcel redirected to your local post office, they charge you for doing it and it takes up to 2 days for it to appear there.
Our postman is a hero. As long as it doesn't need a signature, he finds a way of leaving it somewhere safe. In fact, a couple of weeks back, he rang the bell just after I came back from shopping. He'd left a card for me to go and pick up a parcel, but he said "I saw your car go past, so I came back"

I rather it personally. Having my neighbour pop over with a parcel is a hell of a lot easier than going to the sorting office on a bus or arranging to have it sent to my post office for a charge.

My neighbour is pervy so for me this is the worst news eeeever. I'd rather pay a vendor a few more extra quid and get a courier to bring it.
The thing with the royal mail is, they never seem to deliver things on time. So you can't order things and try and arrange to be in because they're too slack for that.

I like the original idea, but only as all of my neighbours are brilliant. Where I used to live, I would have hated it.

ACtually it's only 8% of the trial group who said no so 8% of 720. And you can opt out it tells you at bottom of article how to do so. Until I moved to suffolk 4 years ago post was always left with a neighbour right from being a little girl so I'm slightly confused anyhow! (ANd I've lived in a few different places so it wasn't just that postman or town being kind!!! Personally I'm all for it as it will make life easier for so many people!

We don't get on with our neighbours, so I hope no post people knock on their doors. We used to get on with them OK, but since our dog was a puppy and was so good at escapism he would have put Houdini to shame, the neighbours completely ostracised us. He wrecked everyone's gardens within minutes. They're all so narrow minded and cliquey around here, they've never spoken to us since.

Jason, I think PayPal may have revised the rule on 'signed for' recently. Have a look under Seller Protection in the updated UA. To opt out of items being left with a neighbour or accepting mail for neighbours register on www.royalmail.com/out or call 08456 113 420.
