Well, yesterday evening I thought would do some cleaning uo on my laptop. I do things blindly, just dumping downloads, photos etc anywhere. I was quite proud when after 3 hours of deleting, merging and moving my photos etc were all nice and tidy Now, this morning when I looked most of my photos have gone. It looks like it is my most recent ones I have checked every single folder, photobucket and recycle bin but I always empty this anyhow. Am I missing something, if I have deleted them could they be hiding somewhere or are they really gone ?

You have on your computer 'system restore' but I am not sure if it will also get pictures back for you

system restore won't undelete personal files like photos, it only restores system files On the good side I can tell you (being the geek I am) that the files although you have deleted them are still there on the hard drive, just the names removed from the system. This is something I learned while studying computer forensics, it's the reason the police can retrieve files, even when people think they have deleted them and they are gone. Before you go any further tho, I have to ask, have you emptied your recycling bin?? if not you can open it and find the files you want, the restore them.

lol my bad the software above may work for this, but I have never come across a free file recovery software that allows you to recover more then about 10-20 files before you have to buy it. Unfortunately all the stuff I have requires quite a training session to use, as it is professional forensic software Give skwoddys link a go, if it is restricted to a set number of files, let me know, and I'll see what I've got in my collection that would be easy to use

They could also just be hiding tbh. you say you left it ok?..
Are they all in a generic format eg. .jpeg .jpg?
Try opening a command window and do a system wide search, iirc the command to type would be 'find *.jpeg /s' - without the apostrophes or the same command with different file extensions .jpg .jpeg
just typing the 'find' command would give you a list of switches and attributes to define your seach eg date processed, names of files etc

first and easiest thing to do is go to your search box and type jpg
in many cases when you have deleted the pics will still be somewhere on the hard drive ,
there are some free hard drive recovery progs that will recover X amount of files

I think I will just have to face that they are gone and be more careful in future. What annoys me is it was all the ones I took last week and this was the first time i uploaded them from my camera, yet the older ones are still there. Thanks again for your help and time
