Welcome Mike. My opinion is. Go for the Riva kit from vapeescape. 1 battery will last a day and a half. Customer service is second to none. You will also need some E-Liquid. Same site for Grizwalds pick n mix. can either get the 5 or 10 pack to try out different juices. For the pick n mix you will also need an atomiser to drip juices into a little at a time to try them out. Find a favourite like. If buying from www.vapeescape.co.uk you can use a discount code allabout. which will earn you a 10% deduction on total order. The good thing with buying everything in one place, is that you will be entitled to free shipping with any order over £40 after discount, and go over £50 and you get the holy grail of devices........ A VE trolley keyring!!! Some stuff for you to link to: RIVA KITGRIZWALDS pick n mix 5 packGRIZWALDS pick n mix 10 packRIVA ATOMISER

hi everyone. Thanks for all the replies, suggestions and welcomes. As i see the e cigs as a short term stop-gap to quitting completely i am reluctant to spend lots of money initially. if it turns out that it's more of a long term thing then i may upgrade as a Christmas present I'm thinking of going with the suggested premium ego style starter kit with an initial 5 x 5ml multi pack of juice. i realise that I'll need to buy more juice fairly quickly but want to hold fire so i can pick one i like. with that said i have a few more questions, apologies in advance if they've been asked a hundred times before 1. if i go with the ego style starter kit and multi pack will that be all i need to get going? i realise that the juice may only last a week. 2. with the ego that's linked on the first page, can i buy bigger/ longer life batteries and other attachments that will just fit straight onto it? 3. with the supplied cartomisers, would i have to stick to one cartomiser per flavour to avoid messing flavours up? 4. roughly how many times can you refill a cartomiser before it's duff? Are there any other atomiser combos that are more efficient? 5. how have you found different establishments willingness to let you vape indoors....work, pubs etc? It's no big deal just curious really 6.can you plug the usb lead into a phone usb charger? I'm electrically minded so if anyone knows about volts and amps any info would be great. 7. finally.... Are there any juices that people could suggest that seem to be popular amongst this community. tobacco flavoured or otherwise (I'll probably try both) apologies again for the wall of text and questions but the quantity of accessories and juices are overwhelming to a beginner. Thanks again for your help so far, Mike

A) Try and find your favourite flavour quickly, as 5 x 5 ml is little more than a weeks supply with most folks, if it even lasts that long. Then you can order a bigger bottle, which might need steeping (more later about steeping )2. with the ego that's linked on the first page, can i buy bigger/ longer life batteries and other attachments that will just fit straight onto it? A) Ego is the battery and you can buy various MAH size, 350,650,900,1100,1300. The higher the number, the more power,so longer lasting. An 1100 will last 1 1/2 days on average.3. with the supplied cartomisers, would i have to stick to one cartomiser per flavour to avoid messing flavours up? A) Pretty much, yes. But buy an atomiser sample atomiser and assorted drip-tips and you`ll be able to drip a few mls and test all your flavours4. roughly how many times can you refill a cartomiser before it's duff? Are there any other atomiser combos that are more efficient? A) Varies a lot with different people, ive had one last a week, others have lasted for months.5. how have you found different establishments willingness to let you vape indoors....work, pubs etc? It's no big deal just curious really A) Some will, some wont. But if you keep it relatively hidden and dont make plumes of vapour, you should be fine. I vape everywhere and so far no problems.
6.can you plug the usb lead into a phone usb charger? I'm electrically minded so if anyone knows about volts and amps any info would be great. A) Ys you can use a mobile phone USB plug.7. finally.... Are there any juices that people could suggest that seem to be popular amongst this community. tobacco flavoured or otherwise (I'll probably try both) A) Black Cat, Cocomel Strawberry ice cream are all popular from vapeescape, but others will have their own take on juices. Taste is very subjective though. What they/I like, you might not.apologies again for the wall of text and questions but the quantity of accessories and juices are overwhelming to a beginner. Thanks again for your help so far, Mike Hope this is helpful to you

Thanks for the quick reply Brian your answers were extremely helpful. the only thing I'm slightly confused about is the atomiser and drip tip. i assume this replaces the cartomiser but I'm unsure how it works. would it mean i can try the different flavours within one atomiser? or am i barking up the wrong tree? Mike

Replies to your questions in red 1. if i go with the ego style starter kit and multi pack will that be all i need to get going? i realise that the juice may only last a week. Yes that will be all you need to get going.
2. with the ego that's linked on the first page, can i buy bigger/ longer life batteries and other attachments that will just fit straight onto it? Yes, the ego has a 510 thread & that means it is compatible with any other 510 ego/Riva batteries, cartomisers, clearomisers etc.
3. with the supplied cartomisers, would i have to stick to one cartomiser per flavour to avoid messing flavours up? If you choose a very strong flavour like menthol, then yes it would be best to stick to that flavour in a cartomiser. Most juices though, you can just vape through the old flavour, or you can try rinsing the cartomisers out & letting them completely dry before refilling.
4. roughly how many times can you refill a cartomiser before it's duff? Are there any other atomiser combos that are more efficient? On average, I'd say you can refill them 4 or 5 times. Some last a lot longer, others start to wimp out more quickly. There are many other types of cartomisers/atomisers/clearomisers but a lot depends on cost as to whether they are more efficient.5. how have you found different establishments willingness to let you vape indoors....work, pubs etc? It's no big deal just curious really I'm not one for going out a lot, but been very pleasantly surprised at the reactions I have had.
6.can you plug the usb lead into a phone usb charger? I'm electrically minded so if anyone knows about volts and amps any info would be great. Yes - if you mean the phone usb wall plug?7. finally.... Are there any juices that people could suggest that seem to be popular amongst this community. tobacco flavoured or otherwise (I'll probably try both) My favourites are Black Cat from Vape escape, & I like all the tobacco flavours I have bought from Paradise Vape.

Lol, I'm so slow typing today No Mike, you aren't barking up the wrong tree. An atomiser hasn't got any wadding inside it so you can just drip a few drops onto the coil of the atomiser to try out different flavours & use the drip tip as a mouth piece. Most of us also use a drip tip as a more comfortable mouth piece on cartomisers as well.

The atomiser I linked to, is a sample of the many that all the vendors stock. But for you to test flavours out, you cant really go wrong with that one. Just drip 3-4 drops of liquid into the top and vape. When you want to try another flavour, take it off the battery, blow through into a tissue, back on battery and drip a new flavour, etc etc.
It is a cheaper way of testing juices without dedicating a carto to the task.

After a while you may find the atty is yuck, so drop into a pan of boiling water for a few minutes and should be good as new again.

For any other new guys who read this thread and maybe think I have a vested interest in www.vapeescape.co.uk I can assure you all that is not the case. I am simply linking to their products because they stock most items that a newbie might require, are a good honest supplier, very competitive prices and once you get to £40 can benefit from free postage. They also have a discount code for 10% off all purchases *allabout* Jason also participates in the forum regularly, so unlike many other vendors, is "one of us"

Thanks for the great answers. i think I've got my head around the bits i was unsure about.
another thing i thought about was how do you vape? ie, do you have several puffs in one go when you get cravings, once an hr or so or do you just have one puff every 10 min or so? sorry if this is a stupid question but i just assumed you'd vape similar to smoking.
is the vaping action the same as smoking? suck and inhale, then breath out? probably another stupid question :/
