I just got back from a walk along the beach. I'm always shocked by the amount of man-made rubbish thrown up at the high water mark. Plastic bottles, nylon rope, loads of fishing net, shoes (have you noticed there's always shoes on the central reservation of motorways ??? ) The amount of this stuff that's floating about in the world's oceans must be staggering.

Yes I agree oneday - the disrespect that many people have for the planet and its ecosystem is shocking.

Agree. The thing is, when it comes to rubbish in the oceans you never know where it comes from! I saw a news story a while back that theres huge swails of rubbish and debris that has washed itself right across the pacific (i think it was the pacific) from the Japanese tsunami to America

That is just awful. How on earth would you deal with something of that magnitude!?

When I was in a beauty spot / nature reserve at skegness, we walked for about 2 miles down a spotless / untouched beach where at the end of it, I found a smashed up freezer, loads of other stuff and a blue self sealing bad which had the words Human Remains in big black letters on it. Really grossed me out since I was bare foot at the time and the seal had split although I didn't dare touch it to find out what was inside.

By far the biggest polluter on our beaches are empty plastic fertiliser bags, obviously coming from farms where these bags are dumped in fields and then blown into the sea during gales.
You would think that those that work on the land would have more respect for the sea.

The sooner plastic bags are banned the better. They wash around the oceans & poison turtles, dolphins & other sea life which think its food >

Totally agree, I've always hated rubbish to the point when i was about 7 I had a marsive argument with my friend because she dropped something on the floor! It looks ugly, causes long term harm to the environment and more upsetting for me is how much harm it does wildlife. We've all heard / seen the ducks, geese, swans etc injured by fishing wire and worse fishing hooks, but cans can and do cause nasty cuts, the plastic rings you get around 4 pack of beers get stuck round necks, plastic bags are a choking hazard etc etc etc. It makes me sick!

It isn't only the marine environment that suffers all this plastic and other pollutants are getting in the food chain. The rubbish left over from the tsunami is small fry and is only adding to the bigger picture it is just higher profile so gets press coverage. Without mankind this planet would be so much better off, sadly we wouldn't be here to enjoy it
