I live on a narrowboat most of the time. I can only get GPRS and very, very occasionally 3G. I am on pay as you go Vodafone and trust me its about the best for this area of the canal. Simple question..... As i use a laptop would it make any difference if i tried a tablet or the like? I dont know if these devices use the same technology as laptops for internet connections.

If you use a phone, tablet and such like you can use one of the Apps, they don't display all the banners etc so may be a bit quicker as there is not so much info to download.

they do use the same technology ... GPRS vs 3G coverage will be the limiting factor unfortunately. You pay extra for 3G enabled tablets as well. Might be worthwhile looking for another mobile vendor ... this link has links to 3G coverage ... you might need a good link to view the contents though www.compare3gmobilebroadband.co.uk/3g-coverage-uk.htm

Taptalk doesn't work with this forum. You have to use the Proboards app.

What you need is something else: a 3G router with an external antenna and a WLAN hotspot. You can put up a fixed antenna on the mast or whatever is the highest spot on the boat and enjoy your internet with whatever device you want.
