I have just bought a V2? (chrome) Lavatube and need to get some batteries. I know IMR are recommended as it has built in protection but was just going to use my standard 18650 protected batteries I use in torches (before I started reading up on this stuff and my head started hurting - electricity is not my strength.) IMR are quite expensive so my questions are: Will using standard ICR protected batteries be a problem? Will using unprotected ICR batteries be ok - I can get some Panasonic flat tops fairly cheaply. Do they actually need to be flat tops or does it depend on the actual battery and it's specific dimensions?
I have a mini Lavatube (same version) and use IMR batteries but some are flat top and some have nipples and all seem to work fine.
Any assistance from techy types gratefully received as I want to order something - nothing like having a new toy with no batteries.

the flat tops are generally reccomended for size issues, unprotected icr should be fine too like the Panasonic NCR18650A 3100mah battery - also the xact same sized unprotected imr Panasonic CGR18650CH should b fine, so if u have either of those they should work. I have the Panasonic NCR18650A in a lavatube so can vouch for it working. You can also use protected batteries as I've heard, the only thing is the bottom cao wont screw on fully, so u can put a spacer or o-ring to fill the gap. It depends on the size a bit too, like some unprotected might be taller than those panasonic ones.
