I am using .25 Nic wire and constantly get 2.8 every single time I coil. I always use 4 coil turns. What do I need to do to get it down a bit. Try .20 or is Kanthal better?

one less turn should give you 2.1 ohms
and I prefer Kanthal its tougher than Nic wire

5 coils with Kanthal 0.2 gives me 2.3-2.4 every time out. (3.3 less 0.9 on the meter) ash is just too good at it....  Thickness of wick plays a part. I did a double-wick once with 5 and got about 3.5....  |

Will dropping to ,20 have a similar effect? No, it'll have the opposite effect. You want thicker wire if you want to lower the resistance. |

Kanthal vs Nichrome will give different results for the same amount of wraps.
Nichrome Wire .20mm 35 ohms per metre
Kanthal A Wire .20mm 46 ohms per metre
2 x 2mm silica wick with 5 wraps of .20mm Nichrome = 1.8 – 2.0 ohms approx.
Some folks don’t like the idea of sucking on a Nickel coil, maybe something to think about.
