Hello & welcome Figgis I bought 2 of those Riva kits for my next door neighbours several months ago & they love them. Than late Monday afternoon my next door but one neighbour knocked on my door asking if I'd order the same kit for himself & his wife. She smokes over 40 a day ready mades & he smokes over 20 a day rollies. I did explain they would really need a kit each but agreed it would be a good idea to just order the one kit for them to share to see how they got on with it. They are both in their mid 70's (only found out today just how old they are), so they were worried they wouldn't get on with them. The Riva kit turned up this morning & I popped over to get them set up with it. Within a few minutes, the 3 of us where sat in their kitchen chatting & vaping away. They both just kept saying they could hardly believe how good it was

Figis, don't put yourself under too much pressure to completely quit the rollies straight away. Many people start off doing a bit of both, which makes sense as it can take a while to totally get to grips with the kit and find juice that you really like! The moto of this forum seems to be, count the ones you've not smoked not the ones you do

Hi Figgis. In the early days, I'd frequently top up a cartomiser with new flavour(s), but kept "tobacco" with tobacco, "fruit" with fruit, "sweets" with sweets etc. Washing out is disappointingly inefficient. t.b.h. next time you are on a good vendor site, buy a 306 or 510 atomiser on it's own with a drip tip. I have one of these... vapourhut.com/atomisers-cartomisers/Atomisers/Bauway-SR-306You HAVE to buy a drip tip with this sort, unless you happen to have a 306 drip tip, which you won't in a Riva kit. I also have some of these www.vapeescape.co.uk/510-standard-resistance-atomiser~9 which work with a 510 drip tip. It's the best way to try out flavours. The 306s are better. Everybody LOVES the low resistance one (LR) but I can't be doing with that one...too dodgy on a basic battery. I can get strong flavours out of my 306 in about 2 hours, soaked in Vodka, blown out and left to dry for a while. People reckon overnight, but they bounce back well enough quicker than that if you drip juice in a leave it for a few minutes.

Thanks djsvapour - that's some good advice there. I'll do some more reading up on that. It looks just the thing that I'm after. And Karma, you're right, it's a marathon not a sprint - I suspect I'm just getting worried at giving up The 3 times I've gone cold turkey were a pain in the aris so I'm just wary I suppose. These e-cigs, having tried one, seem to suit me though. As I say, with the people that say they quit from a 40+ a day habit, and having tried (albeit a weaker version) one, I'm hoping this is going to be the thing I need. Fingers crossed.

when you start vaping just put your pouch of tobacco in a draw and say to yourself thats it, vape as much as you like its better than fags, i never even got tempted to have a roley after 35yrs of it. i couldnt believe it, after all the times i tryed before to pack it in.

Hi figgis and welcome. Glad to hear that Guardian article had an effect You are getting the kit that a lot of us started on so you'll soon know whether it is for you. Most people are amazed at just how good it is, so fingers crossed for you. Let us know how you get on and if you hit any snags there is always someone around to help.

Hi & welcome, figgis. Hope your order arrives quickly, so you can make a start. I think you might be pleasantly surprised at how very satisfying it is with that kit. As has been already said, don't beat yourself up if you do have a cig though.

Just for the record (and to some extent I need to post things so I can recall the dates). I got my Riva kit and did really well until I hit the ale. Went 2 whole days without a ciggie, then chain-smoked about 10 rollies whilst in my cups. Disappointed, but I suspect Monday when I get back to work will be much easier. Not a good idea to give up the rollies on a Friday/Saturday! Still, I didn't have about 30 rollies, so it's about the ones you don't have, as opposed to the ones you do - learning the lingo here. Next thing I'll be calling them analogues

Hi Figgis Sounds like you're doing really well. Don't worry about the ones you had while you were out - it's as much about habit as addiction, and 'drink in one hand, cig in the other' is a difficult one to break! And it was only 10. I only smoked about 15 rollies a day, but I've tried a few times in the past to give up and haven't had any luck. Since I got my first ecig I haven't had a single stinkie and I can't believe how easy it's been. It almost feels like cheating! Try a pick n mix sample of flavours. My favourite flavour keeps changing as I rediscover my taste buds, so these are a really good way of trying out new ones without having to buy the bigger bottles. Happy vaping! StS

Figgis, as Sarah says, don't worry about the 10 rollies you had - just praise yourself for the 30 you didn't smoke
