Made a simple version tonight and it works, tested it outside a box only and now put it inside a box and waiting for some epoxy to dry and i'll post a couple of pics tomorrow and info of what hardware used. This one as no off switch, it as a momentary button for charging the capacitor and 2 pins outside the box for connecting crocodile clips/cables. I have another board, box and some other hardware so going to make an improved version with on/off switch, led's and hopefully a discharge button. Well done, looking forward to seeing the pics. Should we start the list now?

lol steve... I have no video camera but i'll try and sort one out for when i've done my second box. I've took a few pics though. I didn't fix anything in the box so could hopefully see better for the pics. Second one will be a lot better as I used some stuff I had laying about for post etc lol. Disposable cameras bought from boots www.boots.com/en/Boots-Essentials-single-use-camera_1209317/ buy one and get one free. Parts I bought from www.rshelectronics.co.ukMiniature SP. momentary push switch - Colour : Red Multi-purpose ABS Box 100 x 75 x 40mm Crocodile lead set. To be frank the Crocodile lead set are cheap rubbish and would be a lot better with some decent ones. For the posts I used some bolts/washers and some stand off posts for motherboards in PC's all which I had laying around. I was going to use Banana sockets but when I checked I had sockets but no plugs left Next time I think i'll have a fixed post on the box with one clip attached, leaving both hands free to charge and hold the other lead/clip. Thinking about adding a discharge button ad maybe a LED readout for the voltage. With this one there's no on/off switch and it's a guesstimation on the voltage by how long you hold the button down, 2 seconds ish works best for mine and welds the wires well using .2 no res nickel wire + .2 kanthal. I tried loads of times going up to holding charge for 7 seconds, if too high it just flashed/banged but didn't weld, didn't melt any wires though as some others have.

I was making the 2nd one last night but found that the Cap was blown which stopped me in my tracks Made a slight improvement to the first one and soldered a flattened out croc clip to one of the posts to make life easier. Still going to make an improved version once I've sourced the parts needed though. If anyone needs info I'd be willing to help out as I think anyone with a soldering iron and a drill could make one.

I am tempted to make one myself, think I might put a timer circuit in though to limit the cap charge time rather than guessing how long to hold the button down for. However this will mean I need to use a higher voltage batt, so will have to probably put a voltage regulator in to charge the cap.

there's others made much more intricate ones with voltage regulators, discharge buttons and flashy lights compared mine is caveman style lol

Mev, That looks like even I could manage it......with some help. Could you show perhaps a single line diagram of what wire goes where? From the pictures it looks like only about 6 or 8 soldered joints but cant quite work it out coz the pictures are a shade fuzzy and they don't show the other side of the circuit board.
Thanks for sharing your work with us.
Cheers

I forgot to take a pic of the board before I modded it DOH. It was similar to this though. I removed the battery connections and used another I had laying around but you could use the ones on the board just can't turn it off then unless you remove the battery. So 2 of my wires were to the old battery terminals, your post wires go to the caps legs which is easy enough. In the above pic you can see the metal button which was used for the flash on the camera (the pic is different circuit to the one I used), you can follow the circuitry to find the next solder points and those you'd wire your momentary button to. That's it really for the wiring to keep it simple but if you added a separate battery housing you could add a switch between the battery and one of the connections on the board to turn the box off/on. You could add a LED light to the box using the existing LED connection on the board.
