Even before I stopped smoking my dentist was telling me that my gums were receding due to oxygen deprivation . When I stopped he told me that the damage would not get worse but would not improve either. One tooth in particular was badly exposed. Over Christmas it got very tender and this weekend I was in agony with toothache. Today I had to have it removed >

I worry most about losing my teeth due to vaping funnily enough. I have this tingling.throbbing feeling in my gums on the inside of my lower incisors which is where I think most of the nicotine is being absorbed by me. The feeling accentuates the more I vape. Funny that..

I was hoping not smoking would be a good thing in the oral department ( although I still have sneakys..... :-[ ). In particular regards staining.

I've been confused about the effect on the gums after stopping smoking and replacing it with NRT, of whatever type. Nicotine is a vasoconstrictor, which constricts the blood vessels and reduces blood supply especially to the extremities, and I always assumed that the retraction of the gums was due to nicotine rather than other substances in smoke.
Yet I see people reporting that their dentists have said that using NRT will restore the blood supply to the gums, hence the increase in bleeding. On the other hand there are lots of reports of oral NRT users loosing teeth after long term use.
There seems to be a lot of contradictory "evidence" out there.

My dentist told me Id stopped smoking so I knew Id done something right, he said there was massive improvement in gum tissue growth.
Maccafan, the mouth and nose are the best areas for nicotine absorbtion and I think alot of us experience like this when vaping too much, I notice that my teeth clench when ive gotten too much.
Also PG and VG both have antibacterial qualities and will prevent bacteria getting to the teeth... All this from my dentist!!, I was amazed.

At least we're not inhaling carbon monoxide, so should hopefully have more oxygen, which has to be a good thing!

My dentist told me Id stopped smoking so I knew Id done something right, He/she noticed you didn't smell (as much) That's what I mean people are reporting their dentists are noticing an improvement in the gums, yet there are reports of worse oral health using oral NRT. I'd be interested if anyone knows of a study that shows anything.

Well it is definitely better than getting nicotine through burning tobacco.. Though nicotine is not carcinogenic it's not harmless and just a stimulant as people would like to think..It can cause atherosclerosis amongst other things. So vape in moderation and try and cut down on the nic is all I 'll say.. Maccafan, the mouth and nose are the best areas for nicotine absorbtion and I think alot of us experience like this when vaping too much, I notice that my teeth clench when ive gotten too much. I am aware of that skwoddy. In my case the tingling starts after just a couple of drags even after a couple of hours break.

At least we're not inhaling carbon monoxide, so should hopefully have more oxygen, which has to be a good thing! Definitely, that improves the ability of the red blood cells to transport O 2I used to work in respiratory medicine and it always amazed me the amount of people who claimed to have given up smoking, yet went a bit red when I measured their CO and told them they had been smoking

I got a good scale and polish last April after being cig free and vaping for 3 months. I use sensitive whitening toothpaste and although I still drink copious amounts of coffee and red wine, my teeth still look and feel clean
