Why did they discontinue the battery? Could you C&P some info for those of us who DO NOT jump thru ECF hoops.
I Sorry, Thanks Dave.

Is they have discontinued it, then they will be working on a better battery. Sit on your hands and wait people!

I also think it could be because of a problem with them. 1stly, they have no safety pressure valve like most other li-ion batteries and with mine, the 1st time I charged it, the charger managed to make a small dent in the bottom. It's also managed to (over time) managed to make the bottom bulge slightly. It still stands up, but it's definitely not flat anymore.

I've not heard of any problems with these, considering how popular they are. Any battery can get dented if you apply too much pressure to it with a spring or a connector.
They are IMR batteries so like all other IMR batteries, they have no protection circuitry added to them. Their advantages are that they will cope with high levels of current drain and because of their chemistry if they go postal, they vent gases not flames.

Most my 18650`s are panasonic, so are they a safe battery in you opiniun ?

As far as I can tell these are vented, but venting means battery has failed and should no longer be used. I can't see any reports of these not being safe. There must be millions of these out there being used in various applications and I would expect there to be a lot of info out there if they had any intrinsic fault.
As with any lithium cell incorrect use could lead to failure, but I will continue to use them with no concerns.

The CGR18650CH is not an IMR battery. They are a proprietary hybrid technology by Panasonic called PSS which uses solid state technology..
This allows them to have a higher capacity whilst having the same level of safety as a Lithium Manganse (IMR) cell with high discharge rating.
I expect Panasonic might either be losing money with this cell or may have something better round the corner, possibly a Hybrid NCR with higher capacity with higher safety.
