Joining Resistane/No resistance wire

Decided to give Penelope some much needed attention.......

I used to twist wires together to join resistance/no resistance but I kept getting failures at the join after a short time. Not wanting to muck about with camera flash modules I invested in some silver jewellery ferrules, the 1mm ones they are really tiny! see here next to a drip tip for scale:



I just make a hook with the ends of the wires to be joined then feed each wire through from opposite ends then use a small pair of pliers to crimp and hey presto!



The joins are much better, I just measure out the resistance I want using a multi-meter and cut the resistance wire to length. Wrap the coil and the joiners are small enough to fit in the grooves on the ceramic in the Penny.

A bag of 100 or so was about £2 on Ebay.

This is certainly what I was about to do before making the zapper, excellent way of joining wires.

To get these little critters to work you need VERY good eyesight and VERY steady hands. I failed on both counts

I have been using these for a while and whilst they are good, they are not as good as the Zapper.
I found that even though they are small, they can get in the way when trying to feed the wires down the channels on both the Penelope and the Terminator and they can also interfere with screwing on the juice control.

Just flash the joints with a lighter after you have crimped it to get the silver to melt.

Something that clever people make with a bit of sticky back plastic and some camera gubbins Bones, whilst us technically challenged peeps look on in envy.

Don't know that I could manage one tbh Mev, I don't trust myself with anything like that . . . charging and changing a battery is about as good as it gets with me.


I'd happily buy some ready wires though.
