I tried that on a practice tin ... tried making a template to cut out for the whole vamo face ... circles were easy with a dremel ... cutting an exact square ... that's the hard part

Good job there.
When my Vamo becomes dinged up (I take it to work and it bangs around in my pocket) I will be rehousing it also. I will probably just use one of those nice dual 18650 boxes but perhaps only use a single battery so I can fit the circuitry from the Vamo in as well as a recharge circuit coz' I likes things that way.

Ive been considering buying a wooden golf club and getting busy with a dremel/drill, this vamo piece would be an ideal parts solution as an introduction to modding I think, now just to work out the logistics of installing it inside, although Im thinking remove the faceplate from the club and make that magnetic for both an 18350 battery and the vamo innards. Summat like one of these :

Love the golf wood idea Skwoddy, would like to see the finished product mate.
Ash your tin looks excellent and really well done, I would have to cut out the tin for the screen though. It should be simple enough to get a good finish by drilling four holes for the corners and using a cutting/grinding disc in the dremmel to cut between the holes. Could probably get some black rubber or plastic trim for the edges if you don't like the finish of the cuts.

To be honest the main issue with this bugger was the fact I am rubbish with a soldering iron ... having more to contend with was a step to far on the learning curve. However looking back this now, I am going to keep an eye out for people selling knackered lavatubes ... I saw some really cool tins in Forbidden Planet the other week

Bloody hell I hate soldering ... few scratches on the back where the Dremel slipped :-( 3 bits of advice ... buy a pre-wired 510 connector buy a decent soldering iron or go on a course try not to drop your Vamo too often Will I build another mod ... yes very nice ash and well done
