Question about the Wire

Hi all,

It's sunday and i am bored so i thought i might mess around with a old Vision Viva Nova i have, i don't use it anyway as i have a few problems with it so i thought i would use it as a testing machine (Got new one on it's way for my OH)

I have re-wicked a Kanger T3 but i think the only reason it worked was out of pot luck (Didn't like the Kanger T3 in the end anyway)

My question is does it matter if the wrapped coils touch each other (see piccy)

Or do you just separate them a bit to give more heat radius?

Also does it matter if the left and right ends of the coil touch the outer base (see piccy)

Please help me with my Sunday boredom with answers

If they touch each other the overall resistance will be lowered and you may end up with a hot zone and get a burnt taste..

If the right and left ends both touch the base, you will get a short..

So keeping the wires apart from them is to distribute the heat more evenly.

About the right and left end part, does it matter even if just one of them touch the base or as a rule both must not touch the base?

Keeping the wires apart is so that you do not create hot zones.

One end of the wire must touch the outer base and the other end the inner isolated post/pin.

Otherwise it will either short or you will have an open circuit.

Sorry if i have confused you (i do that to people), i know about the end wires one outside and one inside but what i meant was on the top where the wick is, does it matter if just one part of the end of coil (piccy explains it more) touches the top part of the base.

It's just that this: Kanthal A1 AWG34 (0.16002mm) is very fiddly and does does not stay in one place too easy (it's hard to keep in shape)

Good luck with the spacing of the wraps in a small space, I wish you well, but it might be worth sticking the cat out and locking yourself in a padded cell.

The effective resistance starts from wherever the wire touches the base ..So if a part of the coil touches the base you will have a partially glowing coil and a lower resistance.

Heat the wire with a lighter till it glows red and allow it air cool..It will anneal the wire and remove the springiness making it easier to wrap coils of desired shape.

WoW that made all the difference, was much easier now that the wire is more manageable

1st Try with 6 wraps got 3.6ohms
2nd Try with 4 wraps got 2.6ohms
3rd Try with 5 wraps got 2.9ohms (Gonna stick with this one)

One thing i did notice though is that when i put some juice on the coil to test, It smelt a bit like a sweet rubber smell, saying that when i first ever tried the Nova with the head that came with it and filled for the 1st time it always tasted a bit like sweet rubber (Not that i have ever tasted sweet rubber ) but you know what i mean.

Any ideas on the rubber smell thing?

Other than that it is a doddle to re-wick compared to a Kanger T3 so i am quite proud of myself...../head grows

It's probably the coil singeing the soft silicone insulator..

How long does that last because when i first ever used the Nova that smell/taste would not go away even after 2hrs use.

Also when i done the re-wicking today singed the wick before putting together (read it somewhere to do so)

Full tank of juice and still got that taste/smell...very strange, just hope the new one on it's way aint the same.

Well not me my OH as she is the one who is gonna be using it and i will be the one re-wicking it when needed.

Nope, with or without singe it still tastes/smells the same, getting quite worried now with the new one coming, if that is the same my OH is gonna moan again

On a different note, has anyone tried it with more than 1 strand of wick, maybe 2-3 wicks? if so whats the difference?

This man used 3 wicks:

Dunno what thickness he was using though, i have 2mm.
