Is the light working on the remote? If not is the battery up the right way. I know, but I've done it before. Not sure with VW's, but after a remote control battery change, does it need re-synching? We had an American wagon once, that needed a button in the car pressing for a re-synch. So is there a re-synching button in the car or does it say anything in the manual?

What VW is it? I will see if i can find how to do it. Fairly easy to re programme fobs. Usually have to turn the ignition on and off a number of times followed by holding in the unlock button until the indicators blink x 2

The auto lock/unlock key fob has stopped working, changed the battery but it is kaput,i know there are companies who replace/repair them which are cheaper than the dealers (VW)but can anyone recommend one they have used. Keys eh? They are the pain of my motoring life. Last time I asked about a replacement, I was quoted £160. Now, I know the unit is under £40 to the trade, so that's £120 for 5 minutes on the computer/machine. That's £1,000 an hour. t.b.h. if you are planning on keeping the car, swallow the expense and go to VW. It's the biggest rip-off going, but cutting corners is risky. If you are desperate, phone around some places on the internet. I know VW used to charge £55 for the re-program and it's a little less easy than a Ford and takes 15 minutes. I suspect their keys are over £100, so you'd need to add the two together. I think you get what you pay for in all honesty. I need a Ford one (fast) and eventually I'll also get a BMW one too.
