I'm not at a point where I can do the ss mesh wick thing. I am at the point of throwing all my re-buildables out( obviously I wont cos they satisfy me when I get it going) .... mainly because of the inconsistency of the science. They do not work 100% of the time and they do not work 50% of the time even though I do exactly the same thing each time I try. I get a good and a bad result doing the same thing.
So I end up sticking a silicon in just so I can vape. And its good so whats the problem?? I've just spent a tenner on mesh. Waste of money!!
Has anyone found anything that doesn't conduct but gives a safe vape? There must be something.

What kind of flavours do you vape Andy? Because mesh only really benefits tobacco flavours IMHO and silica is certainly better for sweet/dessert flavours

At the risk of repeating myself and becoming a bit of a nuisance, I've tried the genesis attys and they didn't work for me, tried lots of ways as well. Then I tried the pheonix and for some reason the SS U shaped wick worked. That's all I can tell you mate, it worked for me. It didn't work for me with the silica wick though.

Maybe I got lucky? I looked at the videos. I played with a blue flame lighter. I tried the cig paper method on the top of my mesh, then the pulse method... My worst prob was getting the thickness of the mesh right Took a couple of 2 hours popping marathons and about a week in total to get right and a vamoIMHO though if you're going down the silica route you're best investing in something that's going to deliver. Starting with the kayfun (cos of it's tank) and then if that's above budget/unavailable going for the taifun/spheroid or even bulli a2... Jane

Just out of interest what were your problems with the SS setups?

Miniaturised porous ceramic tubes look promising..
Getting hold of the stuff is proving extremely difficult in UK.

I had no idea that SS is unsafe for something to be safer..As far as I know it's as safe to use as anything else you are likely to find.
However a non-conducting capillary wick will eliminate the issues with hot spots. On the flip side, ceramics in that size will be brittle, not to mention expensive. Also, ceramics are made of silicon carbide or alumina & fused silica. Both contain silica in large quantities.I am sure someone will start a topic about inhaling silica, the effect of silicosis etc., and then discuss it to death.
