Vaping and high blood pressure

Some of you may remember that back in October I had a bout of high blood pressure which resulted in a trip to A & E and a full MOT including chest X-rays, blood and urine tests, and the whole array of NHS explorations.
As a result of that it was decided that my heart was sound, my lungs were almost clear (despite smoking for over 20 years!) and it was just age-related. My GP and I decided to try and treat it with a modification of my (already quite good)diet and more exercise - tricky in the dark depths of winter.
Fast forward to this Friday just gone, and I had another couple of blips while at work. Felt unwell for the rest of the day, and decided to take myself along to the local walk-in NHS centre, where I promptly had another ECG and tests. BP 204/100, and heart once again fine. I mentioned my use of a PV and both nurse and doctor were pleasantly surprised I had stayed off the stinkies for almost 6 months, but agreed that the PV had no effect on my condition.
The next morning, woke feeling fine, but by 10am was feeling unwell again, so the OH took me to the A & E again. Once again, ECG proved to be fine (slight arrhythmia, but that's fairly normal, was told), and once again I mentioned to both Junior Doctor and Consultant my use of PV. Again, both agreed that staying off tobacco was far more important than using a PV and that wasn't a factor.
10/10 for the NHS treatment I got, and reassurance that vaping for me is absolutely the right thing.

Very good news that Andy (about the vaping I mean). Hope you get yourself sorted soon regarding your BP, but it is age related in most cases I think.

I have to resign myself the the fact that I will never see 50 again, and it's just one of those things
The most reassuring thing was when the Junior Doctor told me that many of his medical colleagues who smoked now use PVs instead - with the depth of medical knowledge they have, it's interesting that they chose vaping over other NRT.

Hi Andy,
I've got high BP for the last 4 years, I'm on tablets since and believe me the tablets that I take, have more side effects compare with our new hobby. At least we gave up to all those gudrons and toxins. Btw. I'm a nurse and I do have some understanding about medication. If you want to talk more about send me a PM.
My advice? Try to lower the nicotine and time will tell. Experiment for let's say 3 days with 18, see how you feel, then another 3 days with 12mg and so on. Also try different mixtures.

Chap you might be suffering with high BP with added anxiety attacks which make you feel like there is something wrong with your heart (trust me I know), you probably won't explode though.

I find it strange that people talk about NRT and Vaping in the same way when one is exactly opposite from the other.

Although some folks are using e-cigs to cut down with the intention of eventually stopping altogether, well over 90% of those that Vape, do so because they prefer to get their nicotine dose through Vaping.
Whereas those that use NRT products do so to stop their dependancy on nicotine.

Those that chose vaping over NRT did so because they wanted to continue using nicotine and have no intention of stopping.

Hope they get to the bottom of your problems soon Andy.
I also would suspect vaping in the first instance and until further research is done, I am not absolutely convinced that vaping is as squeaky clean as it is made out to be.

I had my blood pressure taken when I first went for champix, it was normal (it always has been) after a week on champix I threw them out and a week later started vaping.
10 weeks later I had to go to the doctors, they tested my blood pressure and it was very high.
I'm now also on tablets,I don't know if it's the vaping or not. I have also gained nearly a stone in weight I don't know if this is the stopping smoking or the tablets as everything happened at the same time.

I've tried all(but all) the "other" products and I can tell you that until I've tried(just tried) the "E-Lites", nothing, but nothing worked for me.

I think, you had these problems before and you realized their gravity, once you had a major change in your life.
Quitting fags... It's a major change in your body.

I must admit that I wonder if the high BP came about as a result of my quitting tobacco. I had no hint of it before, although I grant you it's very rarely that it shows any symptoms.
All in all, I'm glad I'm off the tobacco, and now am aiming to lower my nic levels until I can quit the nic altogether. May carry on vaping zero-nic just because I like the tastes!

Hi Andy

Next time your at the GP ask about stelvia, you can use it as a sweetner if you mix your own juice, so its not beyond reason your doc might be able to advise if the quantities needed are vaping compatible.
