He was diagnosed with a very severe form of cancer on all days but New Years Eve 2013. They live in Westport Co Mayo The only hospital that deals with childhood cancer is in Dublin. This week they are up for their 3rd session of chemo. What amazing people all these children and parents are !!!!

It's sad for any child who has this type of illness. The poor souls have no idea what's wrong with them and chemo knocks the stuffing out of them. cas, if your cousins not well off, there are charities in the hospitals that help with fuel costs if they have a long way to travel. <<<<<<Eyes Left That wee sh1te sat in my truck (my grandson) had a very rare form of luekemia when he was a baby. The local hospital had no idea what was wrong with him. Only through speaking to other consultants, one of them said he thought he knew what it was and he was sent over to pendlebury. Anyway, to cut a long story short, he's now fine, you'd never think there was anything wrong with him (apart from the scars)and has just had his 5th birthday. Think positive cas, all will be well.

Sorry to hear this Cas. I live about 10 miles from Westport - if there are any fundraising activities going on, or anything I could do to make life easier for them, please let me know. It's a real trudge across the country to Dublin, I know. Wishing your cousin's son all the best as he goes through his treatment.

So glad the wean is getting treatment - on a good note, many kids are remarkably resiliant in bouncing back from childhood cancers.
If Mary Harney hadn't spent all the money on steak and chips there would have been regional cancer centres capable of dealing with kids. It's fecking disgraceful that children should have to travel the width of the country for treatment.

That's hard Cas. Is he in Crumlin? My niece went through that with her lad some years ago. They lived in Cork. Could have had the Chemo there but opted for Dublin because she has family here. It was a hard slog. Let me know if I can help. I'm a few miles from the N4/M50 junction.

Hopefully the little wee man will bounce back quickly, but the travel must be a pain. Is there anything like a Ronald McDonald house attached to the hospital that they can stay at?
