Hi Chrissie - or Perps - or anyone who operates a Proboard. Having today opened a board for a few colleagues and I to use over the next few weeks - work stuff - I can't work out how to have membership by invite only. Due to our contracts, we aren't allowed to have an open forum chat/discussion, so have to go 'underground'! The main Proboard home page seems to suggest that you can restrict membership (not have a wide-open-door policy), but once I get in as an administrator, I can't find how/where to do that. Any ideas will be very gratefully received.

Hi Chrissie - well, I did what Roachie said, but......... a friend applied, and I assumed that I would have to somehow approve her. That didn't happen, and she just got in! So I clearly still haven't got it right. Trouble is, our contracts have gagging orders, so we can't just have anyone trotting in. Blummin nuisance, but it's easier for us to have a 'meeting' room for the next few weeks to provide support, sharing info etc., but must find a way to keep out unwanted snoopers. So any more ideas, gratefully received.

Hanow, when you changed the box to "yes" did you then click on save settings at the bottom of the page?
Another thing you can do is make all the members staff & then set up a board/category within the forum only visible to staff members. I'm off out in a minute but will go into more detail on how to do that later on.

You can also set up password protection for any boards you wish to keep private and can 'hide' them. Have a nose around the Admin section; it takes a while to become accustomed but it's not too tricky. Fox

Chrissie - Foxy, thanks - I have tried that, but clearly not working. I am missing something. Today the board/forum shows as having had four 'guests' having visited. Perhaps the idea of a private group/thread might be a good idea - one with a password. But I haven't a clue how to do it.
Could I be really cheeky and ask if either of you could go in as me - presently the only administrator - and do the necessary - making one group/thread only accessible with a password? I could then inform the others what that is.
No worries if you are both busy........ I shall probably get there eventually! :-[

Hanow, I'm more than happy to go in as you & set up anything you want. Or if you prefer, I could join under my own name & you can make me joint admin. I can then delete myself afterwards I'd feel happier doing that rather than going in as you, for several resons. Firstly I can see what happens when i try to join & secondly it means you won't have to reveal your login details to me. PM me a link to the forum.

Hanow, I've registered & activated my account but am waiting for approval. So you must have set it up right - ie no one can get in without your approval. BTW, the guests will be bots - don't worry about them, they aren't human

She did it again folks - totally sorted me out. Had my numpty hat on again - or should that be 'still'? I had everyone parked outside the door - but didn't realise I had to open it, nor how to. :-[ :-[ You are a gem Chrissie.
