Nearly finished book 5................you lot are in for some many surprises!!! let moi pick your brains a bit ..... are the books as good or better than the tv series? are they easy reading as in, i found lord of the rings very hard going i have read prince of thorns and king of thorns (similiar vein) and enjoyed them. will i like the books???? i read some true blood books but about halfway through the box set, i found they were very much all the same so i became bored and now they are relegated to the 'to be read at some point' pile are game of thrones books repetative?

The Chapters named after the character it's about messes with my head, books 5 and 6 (or was it 4 and 5) are 'set' at the same time, but there was too much for 1 book so he split it. Book 6 starts at same place in time as book 5 but concentrates of different characters. If you read them close to each other then it's not TOO confusing. Aside from that, I liked them. Much easier read than LOTR, I do love a wordy novel tho. Mono

The Works have the box set in for £30 :-) Try your local library, mine has them in :-) I'm really enjoying the books, things become apparent that aren't obvious in the series (like who Jorah Mormont's father is ) and character motivations are more obvious after reading the books too. I would say definitely definitely worth a read.

Nearly finished book 5................you lot are in for some many surprises!!! l are they easy reading as in, i found lord of the rings very hard going LOTR is a hard book to read because Tolkien has no concept that a man a dwarf and an elf running through a giant field for 3/4 of a book does not make a gripping story Still love it tho. I found the books ok, I cant stand the show, some fine actors prostituting their careers with some soft core porn actress, just my opinion Regards Jez

Personally, I've read 2 of the books and found them pretty much like LOTR - great story, dry writing style, which means the motion version is way better IMO. I also find it a little confusing as to the order what with him splitting books here and there, the story goes off with two different sets of characters IIRC, it's all a little bit too much like hard work for me. BUT they are good for more detail than the TV series can include, so great for completists. If I were you, I'd pick up the first one and see how you get on before buying the rest.

Nearly finished book 5................you lot are in for some many surprises!!! Patiently waiting for the next two books, been waiting for what seems like forever LOL! I'm finding season 3 a bit of a let down, think they should have made more episodes and gone more in depth into certain parts of some of them, the first epidsode was great but now it's all getting a bit too fragmented for my liking

I almost always find the books have more in them, although the first two series of G O T appear to have stuck more or less word for word of the books. The first two books are quite hard to keep pace with, once you get past them the rest are very easy although they do tend to just deal with certain charactures for the whole of each book. So you may read a whole book and still be left wondering what's happened to a certain character

i'm sticking with the tv series. i'm reading 'the woman's daughter' at the moment and thats a bit fragmented and back and forth over time lines. i'm not deprived, i have too many books here as it is
