Charging a UDT-L mod (Efest 18350) with an eGo usb charger?

Got bored and decided to see if I could charge an Efest 18350 inside a UDT-L mod with an ego usb charger

It's a standard joyetech branded ego usb charger, 4.2v output 420mah with a red light that changes to green when battery is full.

Popped an 18350 into my UDT-L mod, screwed in a 510>eGo adapter and screwed it into the usb charger.

Light on charger stayed green, pressed the UDT-L fire button and it changed to red

Put a rubber band around the mod to hold the fire button down and it seems to be charging...

Is this a safe back-up way to charge it? a more portable solution for in the car or on holiday? or will it explode in my face in the next couple of hours...only time will tell.

yes to check the voltage, it's gone up from about 3v to 3.6v.... seems to be working.

What you are doing just isn't safe and the last thing the vaping community needs at the moment is stories about e-cigs going wrong.

Use the right charger for your batteries. If you want a mod that you can charge the batteries through a USB there are some available BUT they have been designed for that purpose!

Pleased you listened to Simon Adam78   I can assure you we're not spoil sports.  



My main concern was others reading your posts and trying it!  We do have a lot of guests here every day, who may not have anyone to tell them when they are are doing something dangerous

You just saved yourself a lot of potential hassle

sorry karma I listened to you too it was already un-plugged was just trying to keep it in the light hearted spirit that this post was intended to be...I didn't think it through I guess.

and I certainly didn't predict that the outcome of this thread would be the possibility of me having my UDT-L inserted where the sun doesn't shine

in my defence I did do a bit of research and found this thread

Charging a 18650 battery with an ego charger

and in the blurb for the ego-t mod it says "You can also charge the 18650 battery while inside the eGo-T Mod by attaching it into an Ego Rapid USB Charger"

at the end of the day my ego charger is regulated so it won't over-charge and it outputs 4.2v same as my nitecore.

I understand your concern though

It'll be fine till the battery reaches around 4 volts and then the mod will start pushing out current to the charger..Probably ruin the charger..

I 've done this though a few times because the battery would not fit the charger as it was too long when I was waiting on delivery of a good charger..

This has came up before, I won't say which other member tried it! There were lots of posts made by people much more electrickery minded than me and they all deemed it a very bad idea!

Why don't you get yourself one of these as a back up mod which can also act as a back up charger as it's been designed to do so
