That seems too cheap for so much storage!

Hmmm, I was tempted but thought it too cheap to be any good. Also @ USB2 speeds would be very slow. I have USB3 ports on my new lappie and thought one of THESE would be better?

Good rule of thumb with flash storage, if it's not a well known name, avoid it. Personally, if it's not either Sandisk or Transcend I don't bother, because I know somewhere down the road i will lose out.

10 MB/s read and 5 MB/s write
That is painfully slow!

Thanks skipraider but that's a 3.5" HDD and needs a external power supply and I want a USB powered device. Good value though

Thanks skipraider but that's a 3.5" HDD and needs a external power supply and I want a USB powered device. Good value though Des its 2.5" USB bus powered. What I did was buy one of these and then bought a cheap used 2.5" HDD and make my own which is super easy to do.

You're right about it being a 2.5" @simate but from the blurb "Furthermore, this Hitachi 500 GB hard drive comes with a USB cable and a power cable. The Hitachi Touro Mobile also offers a rotational speed of 5400 RPM"
