I'll only use Sandisk or Corsair flash drives, wouldn't touch this one with a bargepole.

Personally im just using it as a storage area for metadata / fanart that gets downloaded for my media player, I should have pointed out I couldnt bear to try and fill it in one fell swoop, but it has a use for me, I also use usb 3.0 as my main storage portable drives, as even using these on slower usb 2.0 ports they fly as they are much quicker at small bursts than 2.0 devices.
Ideally im looking for a usb powered 1.8 inch HD, do they exist anymore?

Cheap but poor performance for USB 3.0 hence the price I suppose. I don't understand why manufacturers bother to make USB 3.0 devices that are no quicker than USB 2.0 Read spead is quick but the write speed is embarrassing. On that page

I don't think that's normal though Simate as the same bloke as sent it back for repair.
They are not going to be the fastest out there for that price that is for certain though.

Im gonna do a bit of research on both these drives cheers guys.
Im currently testing the (real world) differences between a Sandisk Extreme USB 3.0 flash drive and a Transcend (Class 10) SD Card. My thinking is that for small burst writing these will be fine but for the longer, bigger transfers a HD will shine, suppose it depends on the time required for a HD to reach optimal spin speed.
For the inquisitive, Im using a Raspberry Pi with a XBMC install and am just looking for the fastest and cheapest options for storage of Metadata, the odd program file and media file.

Streaming nowadays is alot better than it used to be with these devices.

I'd not even heard of icefilms SkwoddyI was a Beta tester for the Roku at the end of 2011 before it was launched in the UK, it was a nice little unit but the services were nowhere near as good as the US which is the problem with some of the apps on the WD TV too.
