Are people torching there silica wicks before using them?
So after a whole day of playing around and working myself into a funny little rage I'm still not 100% on my conclusion It all started while trying to get this dream working I'd previously retired it to the draw while I waited for some ekowool to arrive I seem to be getting it set up working ok but every bloody time there's a weird taste just lingering around almost like burning paper even with the new ekowool although not quite as noticeable it's still there
Now I couldn't work out why this was happening since it was the same wick I use on my spheroid and igo and they taste just fine then I realised when I wick them If i hit the button on and burn the coil red hot till there's no smell(a good few long bursts) it tastes way way better
Now I'm debating heading down Tesco and grabbing a chefs torch in hope that ill torch the ekowool recoil chuck it together and wave goodbye to that god forsaken nightmare taste lol
Have I previously missed something and that's what people are doing? I feel like I'm always missing the point here with rebuildables or I'm just cursed with some super sensitive taste buds that let me taste wick or something EWW

I soak all new wicks in Isopropyl for 24hrs and then drain and leave for 48hrs in a warm place to completely dry out, i had the same problem with wick, could always taste it but i don't no more since cleaning with Isopropyl.

I put mine in a mug and fill it with boiling water from the kettle, let it cool down then dry it. No taste at all.

If I get a wick with a funky taste then I boil it for 15mins and hang it on the line to dry Otherwise I'll just fit it and vape through the taste. Make sure you flame the wire though, sounds like when you check the coils on your spheroid that you're burning and residue from the wire. Run a lighter flame up and down the wire making it glow orange before you make the coil, two passes is usually sufficient

What blakey said about the wire, I put my wick in some water and nuke it for a couple of mins, its a small container , then hang it on a drawer handle to dry and its good to go

Same here as blakey, boil it in a saucepan for 15-30mins. I have had some wick that tasted vile, but a good boiling sorted it out.

Flaming your wire also takes a bit of the 'spring' out of it and makes it easier to coil - better behaved let's say

Also wash your hands before handling wick & wire, the oils on your skin will taint the wick.
I wash my hands first AND flame the wick to help reduce the "funky" taste.
